Dave, how far does it come up when you do the 5k-5500 RPM shift? I do that all of the time and again, it won't come up more than a couple inches and touch right back down. Hell, I have taken it up to 5k RPMs let go of the throttle and wacked it and it still only comes up a couple inches. I whack it all of the time in first gear and do it like it's nothing now. Are you leaning back to get it to wheelie? (Message edited by Shea on September 20, 2006) |

Shea, Is your bike running right? At 5500 rpm and a quick shift into 2nd the bike will loop if you are not careful. I have never ridden a Buell of any year or model(except Blast, those you gotta work to wheelie) that will not wheelie this way. The 9s you need to be about 6-6500 RPM to make it work |

If you're in the mood to scare the shit out of yourself, while in first, just run 'er up to about 4500rpms and let off the throttle really fast and then open 'er up really fast. You'll be hitting yourself in the chest with your air box in no time. It'll dump you off the bike too if you're not careful. |

On my way back down... (1st gear... to 2nd... to just below redline [to allow a soft landing leave some RPM remaining]) I can ride 2nd for awhile... I haven't tried 3rd yet (on purpose). Regular 12S Glitch you're trying to KILL him.... |

Uh oh...I think I sold my sportster to my neighbor today. He said he is coming over tomorrow with the cash. Who knows, maybe I'll be taking a trip up to Mid Ohio next weekend on a new XB12Ss??? |

I have no problem with doing really high wheelies from 1st or 2nd. gear. I, too, was thinking these things woulnd't wheelie... I was just not being aggressive enough. Actually, I was scared of flipping over... but try, try, try.... and you will get the hang of it. These bikes are very sensitive to the throttle... and thats good. If I feel like its going TOO high, I just simply let off VERY LITTLE throttle and she comes back down softly... the throttle is very exact - and I like it... I never really have used the rear break to counter the wheelie -- oh, my foot IS there just in case - but slight closure of throttle does the trick... Don't be afraid to really rack the throttle on and the dump the clutch (or don't use clutch - it's strong enough)... and she'll come right up. I've done wheelies at 60mph in 2nd before all day long.... and long one's to. THESE BIKES WILL DO IT... they aren't powerless... the torque is what does it anyway. see ya |
