I called Daytona HD about where to install the urethane bushing that is shipped with a Daytona Boss exhaust and was told it simply gets installed in the rear exhaust bracket hanger. So, temporarily satisfied with that answer, I went to install the bushing into the Z bracket (front hole) and found I would have to grind out the hole to fit this bushing. Has anyone else found this to be true also? Originally, I had mounted the Boss without the bushing and for me that lasted 500 miles or so before the rear hoop clamp holding the exhaust can broke at one of the bends. When I called Daytona about this happening, they sent me a new hoop clamp and bushing (told me the hoop clamp broke because I didn't install the bushing). Not thinking much about it at that time, I didn't think to ask about if I had to modify the bracket so it would fit. Steve Molten M2 |

I posted pictures of the new Buell Pro Series and new SuperTrapp IDS mufflers on sacborg.com, along with some pictures of old IDS mufflers of mine that have failed. Enjoy! Jim X-2.5 |

Dart, 12,000 miles without the pesky bushing and still using the old hanger. I just can't figure out why all of a sudden all these problems are cropping up with the BOSS mountings... Loki |

I just tried to mount a Supertrapp on my 01 M2. As you know the front mount is different, so it didn't fit. Does Supertrapp have an upgrade for the new mount? You would think the dealer would have known... |

I posted a pic of that new supertrapp a little while ago here. (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/8049.html?996609026) At the time, I said that the trapp comes polished instead of brushed. Everyone that others have seen have been brushed, not polished. The one I'd returned to ST (that failed in the same way that Jim's have failed) was one that I'd spent several hours polishing. I now *THINK* that they took that into account and polished the one they sent back to me, even though the new trapp doesn't come that way. IF true, Kudos to supertrapp, that's way cool. In any case, I'm impressed by the new muffler, it appears to fix the weak points. Now if they'd only make one that fits the race header, then they'd have something. Al |

Notice there is more of a gap between the front bracket and the beginning of the sloped part on the Buell muffler than on the SuperTrapp. Notice also how both of them are only spot welded in three spots instead of a bead that goes all the way around the muffler. Cheap. In the photo that Al showed, not only did the muffler look better polished than brushed, but the weld in front is tackier, on the final product too. Now someone needs to give a call to SuperTrapp and see if they plan to make a model that fits the Buell race header. Jim X-2.5 |

Jim : please keep us updated about your contact with SuperTrapp. I also have the old Trapp fitted to the Buell race header and I wonder what I can find to replace it before it ends through the usual break. |

Did any of you see the new D&D pipe on sporttwin.com? Looks like they did a lot of Buell-specific work on it. What y'all think? |

Well, my Wileyco pipe finally cracked it's front mount. I've had it for 1500 miles or so. It's time to try out their lifetime warranty. Has anyone already been down this road? I'll post when I find something out. Hopefully the new part will have a strap that goes all the way around the pipe. I was supposed to go on a bitchin ride tomorrow up to Suwanee, TN. Oh well. |

OK, After reading most of the posts, I am still undecided about a muffler for the S-1. Which one is the best for power/torque, supertrap, Vance& Hines or others. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Bill |

I am impressed with Wileyco's customer service. I sent them a message Friday night and Saturday morning I had a reply. They are sending the replacement header pipe (of an improved design), gaskets, and a repacking kit. |

fastback... whats that pipe sound like? Hows the power compared to the stocker? I am thinking of getting a Wileyco due to that guarantee. I just want a better sound with no loss of power. |

It sounds cool. It's deep and rumbly at idle, and it has a nice throaty growl all the way to the redline. It makes more power than the stock pipe but I think the V&H makes more. The fit and finish are excellent. |

Still looking for an exhaust system for my S1W. First off, Buellzebub, Al, thank you for your previous responses. After studying the subject, I have decided to get a race header. My understanding is that I have three options: Buell, West Tek and Kooks. Does anyone know how they differ from each other? The next question is the muffler. I would prefer something that bolts on without any fabrication on my part. (I don't have the tool chest or the right contacts - yet. :-) Also, something that is tunable or comes with an optional baffle to keep the noise down when required would be real nice. Any experiences? Buellzebub, do you have a close-up picture of the connector you put between the e-series and the race pipe? If so, please post. Finally, my apologies for always asking questions -- will start to contribute to this great board once I get more experience with my still-new-to-me Buell! Cheers, Semi P.S. Al, I am still interested in those forks; hoping your project is going well. :-) |

Does the Pro-series exhaust for 2001 X1's have both front and rear mounting points? From the pictures I've seen there doesn't appear to be a flange/tab on the header for the front bracket. |

Semi: I believe West Tek has exited the exhaust business but chect with TAT at ASB before taking my word for it. Kooks are good quality pieces but very loud. I think that leaves you with the Buell Race Header into a Supertrapp IDS series. It is the only tuneable device for sound level that will fit on the race headers collector. Supertrtapp just redesigned this, so ask them if it will fit on the Buell Race collector. Unless someone else knows better? |

Tripper, thanks, but I think the new Supertrapp will not easily adapt to the Buell Race Header. See what Al wrote about it: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/8049.html?996609026#POST70527 I really hope that West Tek is still in the business. Anyone know for sure? Cheers, Semi |

There's always the White Bros for the race header. You have to make an adapter tube, but it will fit, I hear. I've also heard of somone modifying a V&H to fit. I'm in the same boat. I've got a race header I can't use, and I've got 6 mufflers between 2 bikes (2 V&H, 2 stock, 1 new Supertrapp, and 1 new Two Bros pipe soon to be delivered for lending them My S3 for fit checking and dyno testing. I may be hacking up a V&H soon. Does anyone have an old V&H that had the front mount ripped off? I'd love to get my hands on one to experiment with before hacking up a perfectly good one. Sem1, fork tubes are still at the anodizers. I have the racetech valving kit and springs but haven't started disassembling the sliders yet to install them. Al |

West Tek is in business, he just tired of people complaining that the price of his exhaust was too high and has said he won't build any more. It's high for a reason. TAT may be able to convince him to do a 98 header for you. |

Just got off the phone w/ Tim-at-WestTek (he's repairing my muffler) they'll probably do custom order exhaust pieces but will be concentrating on new lowering kits and other fun toys. Josh |

Anyone experience exhaust leaking at the header/ elbow joint of stock exhaust? How is it fixed? Other than the obvious R&R to race pipes. Pilk |

I have another exhaust question for you guys that you have probably answered 10 times. I have a 2000 x1 (3900 miles) with race kit (Bought used about 2 months ago). Just had the shock recall done(yesterday) and the mechanic noticed that the clamp that holds the pipe to the front mount was not only ripped over half way through, but it was not even on the mount anymore. Any clamp updates? It looks like I need to take the front bracket off and have a lip welded on it to keep the clamp (hose clamp on steroids) from sliding off again. All the horror stories, especially the one about the guy in CO, about muffler problems scare the sheit out of me. I'd like my muffler to stay attached to the bike while I'm riding. I'm swithching to redline for the trans and will need to take the pipe off to access the drain plug, so I'd like to get all this taken care of at once. (A lovely way to spend Labor Day) Thanks in advance. Jeff |

Jeff: do you have the new exhaust bracket? It should cure your exhaust system problems, or at least help substantially. AW |

I have the exhaust mount pictured above. This is the piece that needs the lip on it to keep the clamp from falling off/sliding backwards off the exhaust bracket. I need the clamp that goes around the header and over the bracket above. The clamp does not hold the header to the muffler, just keeps the header snugged up to the bracket picftured above. What a mess. Jeff Sorry, I have no part number. I just got off the phone with San Diego Harley and they said that HD net is down, so maybe tomorrow. |

Aaron, I looked at the service bulletin. The race kit uses the bracket above, so I think the new mount kit will not work. There are no "ears" on the muffler with holes in them for the bolt to go through. Jeff |
