I was in a dealrship the other day and a fellow at the counter said that there is a rumor going around that Buell is going to come out with another muffler that will sort of replaace the one that is no longer available. Anybody knwo anything about this rumor? |

Sounds like a great rumor to me. Lets perpetuate it!!! A STEALTH / EPA Compliant RACE KIT.... YES PLEASE!! I hear it adds +10bhp at the back tire too!! |

And fuel economy increases even more... in fact, you have to periodically stop and drain some gas out.......... |

I heard it uses advanced integral hypersonic oscillators to massage your inner thighs as you ride too; totally eliminating fatigue while it increases your sex drive. |

Lowflyer are you talking about mufflers? Bosh, I swear this is true. Years ago I dropped into a local BMW shop, the staff and a couple other customers were laughing about this mini catalog one customer had in hand. There were three seats pictured (I don't know what bike they fit), each with a pronounced "ridge" down center of the pillion... from mild to you've-got-to-be-kidding in height. Pillion sections were 12V powered oscillating-vibratory device enhanced... Obviously not for HD's of the time! (Message edited by xbimmer on September 13, 2006) |

Anybody knwo anything about this rumor? This month's Cycle World has an article on the 07 Harleys and mentions that the twin cam bikes all have noticeably louder mufflers this year. This was allowed because of the noise reduction from new helical gear/dog ring transmissions introduced in 2006. This lets them increase the exhaust sound and still meet the EPA noise limits. Since Buells also got these transmissions 2006, it seems they could get the same treatment. Maybe there is something to this rumor. |

Since Buells also got these transmissions 2006, it seems they could get the same treatment. Perhaps, but I wouldn't hold my breath. From the statements I've seen Erik Buell make, he is no fan of loud exhausts. Have you heard and XBRR? |

I don't think the new HD exhausts are anything like what most of us would describe as a "loud exhaust", they just have some decent rumble to them. I have no clue if Buell plans to follow suit, I've just read a lot of complaints about the XB's with stock exhausts sounding like Briggs & Strattons. A little more exhaust sound would be appreciated by some riders. |

Every time I take the Uly to work and Mrs Chrisb is at home when I return. I get a "the Buell is too quiet" scolding. And typically one in am when she calls me at work. |

Chrisb, Are you serious? Every time? I think (correction, I KNOW) I would have told my wife to get over it by now. |

The race kit was not loud, just good. I would pay for that sound. And if Erik is so sensitive about loud mufflers then where does he stand on cooling fans? |

"I would have told my wife to get over it by now." Yer a brave man, on the internet anyway. Brad, They probably unplug the fan during the EPA noise qualification testing. D'OH! |

Or maybe they are able to take advantage of the EPA's exemption for leaf blowers? |

Yea, I forgot about that. The fan probably precludes any chance of the muffler being made louder. Oh, I know. Buell changed to the helical gear/dog ring transmission so they could change to louder fans in 2007! LFSL

Hey Chris, maybe look for a different muffler this year under the Christmas tree? |

Chrisb, Just tell yer wife it is the only time you can get some quiet. Maybe tell her that you are getting ready to order a face mounted Buell muffler for her. |

I'd still like something in volume between stock and the race kit, us people who leave at the beach are paranoid. Dern Coppers. --Sean |

Get her on here. We'll straighten her out. Seriously, though, I'm in no way one of those "be a man" types, but if my wife (or anyone else for that matter) was harping on me as relentlessly as you claim your wife is regarding something as ridiculous as this, I'd sure as hell tell her to shut her pie hole. YMMV. |

Chrisb, I hear ya. I married a hitter as well. She gets it from her mother, who not only hits, but can deliver a brutal ear-flick. Perhaps, if you read between the lines, what she's REALLY telling you is that you need an ADDITIONAL bike that is louder (like an XB-R with Micron full system) to address her noise need. And of course, as a good husband, you should do what it takes to make her happy...

My wife got all excitable last night and told me to hurry up and close the garage door before I woke the neighbors. From the FAN. I kid you not. I told her loud fans save lives. Then I ducked into the house quick as a cat before she could wind up... |

"Based on HD practice, obviously someone needs to introduce a line of even LOUDER aftermarket fans for Buells. Trojan? Al? Now that's an IDEA!! You can put playing cards in the fan for guys that miss the loud discontinued race kit!! I'm gonna make a fortune on this one. |

Actually the correct rumor control approved version is that it is no longer a muffler... it is a Buell re-designed underslung flux capacitor. |
