I am far from a squid and I feel that doing wheelies is only appropriate from hard acceleration and control of the motorcycle. I never really "tried" to do a wheelie. The other day I was riding around, playing with the throttle as usual. I just like to hear the engine on this beast. I was on a back road and I hit the throttle, but not as hard as usual. I generally lean forward when I hit it and only lift the front end about 3 inches at most and only for a moment. Well, I didn't lean forward because I was only hitting the throttle partially. The front end lifted a good 1-1.5 foot and continued to carry it for a moment before shifting and letting it back down. It was almost instinctive on how to control the bike and set it back down nicely. BTW, passed 3 inches and it's very difficult to tell how high the wheelie is. It was exhillerating. I wanted to do it more, but I restrained myself. I want to take it to a track or vacant area to practice with it, but have no idea where. I need to get it out of my system now. LOL | ||

Ive been riding for years and have never been much of a wheelie kinda guy. Untill I got my Uly last year. Now I can't ride the damn thing without doing at least a small wheelie almost every time I ride it. My friends laugh now because I'm always pullin' the front tire up. When I ride with the cruiser guys at work they always talk the next day about the hooligan on the Buell. I don't do high ones or very long ones but it is still great fun. The Drummer barking when the front comes up just adds to the effect. I'm hooked. I just hope it dosen't get me in trouble someday. It pays to be VERY selective when and where you do it. | ||

I know the feeling, right after I first got mine I accidentally got the front up in 3rd while entering the Autobahn. Awesome feeling!  | ||

I did something like that, not so smooth, by accident the other day. I started through an intersection, after stopping at a light, on an uphill. I'm not sure what I did, but my wheel popped up, unexpectedly (I think I let out the clutch too slow), dropped back down, popped up again, dropped, and once more. I think that happened because I got nervous. Any pointers as to how to keep it up, and smooth, or stop it from bouncing like it did? | ||

When I got my bike ('00 X1) every one said these are wheelie monsters. There must be something wrong with my bike because it is not a wheelie monster. If I popped the clutch from a stop it would pull the wheel but it will not if I stab the throttle from a slow roll. It has pulled the wheel a couple of inches when shifting from 1st to 2nd a few times but I don't think it would ever do it in 3rd. Is this normal for a X1? | ||

LOL - today on the way to work I'm enjoying the Red bike and this guy on a really built Dyna pulls up to me and does his reving - etc. - so for laughs I smile and nod - rev the motor -we take off - I forgot you can launch these puppies in the air - foot and a half later in the air - I smile bring her down, catch up to the Dyna and pass him in the corners. Launches after that he would still pull away first just a bit, however, by the time we'd get to corners I'm passing him - just good fun being had by both of us - but yeah - memo to self - neither Blast is that stock any more - lol Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ  | ||

I don't think it would ever do it in 3rd. Is this normal for a X1? IDK I did it on my XB foot and a half later in the air - I smile bring her down I had an experience almost the same... only my friend (R6) and I were at a light when some kid showed up in the lane next to us in some Mercedes.. he kept eyeing us. So I revved it to get my friends attention, gave him the head nod for put this kid in his place... the light turned green and all I could see was sky... I set it down, shift... the R6 goes by... shift... start slowing down for entrance ramp onto the base... Mercedes goes by. Not sure if he understood power to weight ratio's, but I think he knows better for next time. |
