Hello everyone Was thinking of moving to North Carolina and needed some advice on where they think a good area to live is. I am hopefully going down for a week to check things out. Where is a good place to spend some time? Any help is great! I am a restaurant chef, want to live just outside a major city I guess, would like a large yard and some space, but not be in the middle of no where. Thanks! Hello Mickey, You don't give us much to work with What do you do? Industry, occupation(s,) etc. You want beach, mountains, 'tweener land, we have it all. C3 has members scattered all over so if you have a specific place in mind there's probably some local knowledge available. Good luck! G2 |

V8 - Asheville might work well. It's in the mountians, so the riding is good. There are also some nice restaurants in the area, though I don't know what it's like to work there. The Grove Park Inn, and the Builtmore House come to mind if you want to google them. If you don't want to live in town, you can get yourself some land w/o going broke. |

Better wait for someone else to chime in here. We live in a 1 stop light town! Sounds like you would be better suited for the Raleigh/Cary/Chapel Hill area. Lots of schools, universities, shopping and restaurants. Best of luck! |

How much house and land, well, depending on where you want to live and what kind of house, either a small nice house and a LOT of land, or some nice land and a NICE house. Down here $400,000 can go a LONG way. If you haven't already, check out the MLS in a few areas like: Greenville Wilmington New Bern Raliegh Area Charlotte Area Greensboro Area Asheville Area My wife can tell you, from her research, it wouldn't take much, just depends on what you want. |

If you're looking for a nice house, 400,000 will be huge in the subbies of cary. Most of those places come with some decent land if you look around and find the right neighborhood. Plus, its got practically no crime and was rated top 10 on one of those lists that picks cities for whatever reasons they make those lists for. I think apex was on one too. I'm partial to cary though, thats where I'm from. If you've got the resume for the top quality restraunts, check out places like 3rd empire, sullivans, rays and there used to be a place called the neopolitain or something like that but I heard it went under. Nice restraunts are a dime a dozen in cary, so a qualified chief should have no problem (if you want to know why, google cary and preston, thats the neighborhood that mainly filled our rival school. Its supped to be the most expensive parking lot per capita in the entire nation! That was the rumor anyways). Major highways nearby and 64, US1, 40, 440, 55 etc. Stores are abundant. I'm sure other people will chime in with info for the other cities too. |

Wilmington has a large number of eateries in general pay scale is low and taxes are high Many in town areas are subject to partial flooding, Love to have you but up state would likely be a better choice. especialy land vs dollars and twisties, the area around Wilmington, think billiards table ... |
