Hey guys, I own a Uly and now the wife wants a Blast. She took the Rider's Edge course and has her endorsement so she is wanting a bike bad. I just sold my KLR to fund her Blast so now I need the important info like: 1) What are the model year differences besides color? Are there any I should avoid? 2) Is there a common problem I should look for to have been addressed? 3) Is there anything else I should look for out of the ordinary when shopping for one? Thanks, Joel |

Joel - There are no "bad" years. Models before 03 used a paper rocker box gasket, which will eventually leak at which time it can be replaced with a metal gasket. There was a recall on the 00 Blasts for the rear sprocket. |

While all years are almost identical dont pay the same for a used 2001 as a used 2005. Prices definitely drop the older they get and a good deal can be found on a low mileage older one. A bone stock Blast is a safer buy than a modified one, unless you really know what you are looking at. You may also find a leftover new one at a dealer for $1000 or more of sticker. Beware of used 'Riders Edge' bikes. Having been almost exclusively ridden by new riders, they will have taken a lot of abuse. |
