I have a 1999 m2 with s1 cams, force pipe, jet kit. with 15,000 miles. the engine has a slight knock at a very low idle. If I raise the idle or push the gas it stops. It sounds like its coming from the bottom end or rear cylinder. I cant tell, but its not coming from the front cylinder. I took the primary off to check the motor sprocket nut and its fine. Im thinking it might be the cams or the rear piston slapping. Any ideas would be great before I start tearing it down in a week.

Mine never did it until one day it just started. How high of a idle do you have? I can hear it over the force exhaust witch is loud. Im thinking its the rear piston because I cant hear the noise at all in the front cylinder. Can you guys hear like that in the rear cylinder. So Im thinking it might be a bad cam or lifter or valve or piston slapping. In about a week or two Ill have more time to tear it down.

I found what the noise was. I took the rocker boxes off everthing looked good. I took the cam cover off and took cams out everthing looked good. I still had the noise coming from the crank. So I took the primary off for the third time, and found the motor sprocket nut was loose, But it was only about 1/2 to 1 turn loose. You could barly fell it by hand. It was just enough to make the very small knock noise at idle. I cant believe it had to tear half the motor apart to find it. But it'll be a easy fix for the third time. thanks for everone help...david

David:

Make certain you tightened (torqued) it in conformance with the current specs.
