What is the typical hp gain of an XB with the use of a race ecm over stock? How about fuel mileage as well? | ||

i think that a race ecm must work with a kn or similar air filter on and a race muffler to if you want to gain some power more.when i bought the complete race kit for my 12 the local h.d. dealer told me around 12 or 13 hp more. but for me with a good settings you're lucky with 6 maybe 8 hp more. i know nothing about mileage. bye Alessio | ||

What is the verdict of running the Race ECM and K&N with the stock pipe on a 9? Because of noise issues in my town, I might have to swap back to the stock pipe, but don't want to have to do a TPS reset to get the stock module back in there, plus I don't like how lean they come from the factory. Will running that setup hurt anything? --Sean | ||

I've seen it done and it worked fine; you'll just likely get some burbling under decelleration is all. | ||

you do NOT need to do a TPS reset to put the stock ECM in your bike, If it worked when you took it out, it will work when you put it in the same bike. ( unless there was a great deal of mileage elapsed, and the Throttle Position Sensor has worn to some degree.) | ||

Thanks guys, Al also shot me an e-mail saying the same thing. Hey Fullpower, why would I not need a reset. If the TPS has to be reset for the Race ECM, why wouldn't it require a reset to go back to stock? Just curious. Thanks! --Sean | ||

The stored value in the ECM is persistent and doesn't need voltage applied to the ECM to hold the value. It is only memorizing the TPS voltage that = fully closed. Unless the TPS has been separated from the throttle body, or, as Dean says, it has worn significantly, the memorized value won't be different when you put it back on as it was when you took it off (the same bike, obviously). | ||

Just FYI, I swapped pipes last night and went on a 10-mile or so ride this morning with the full race kit, but stock muffler. It was nice to cruise in downtown HB and PCH and not worry about cops looking at me for exhaust. It was also nice not wearing ear plugs. I had a hesitation at 4K, which went away after running the bike above 3500 for a while. Now the bike seems to be running fine. No popping on decel, nothing wierd, more power than stock, response and power not as crisp as race kit, but still acceptable. I'll be interested to see where fuel economy goes and I'll post after a few tanks. another nice thing is I don't feel the hole around 4K anymore, power delivery is more linear again. --Sean | ||

Sean - thanks for the post. I am considering doing something similar to my XB12R. I love the fuell economy and I live in an area with more than a few "barney fife's" feeling that the noise pollution is the worst crime known to man. Please do post a followup. |
