Okay, so I understand that it's probably pretty vital to have the 1000 mile servicing. That I understand. What I don't understand is having basically the Harley Dealership change my oil. Change the oil and filter, Change the Tranny lube, and zero out the TPS. Here's my question, I'm pretty sure I can't zero out the TPS since i dont have the software or a PC. Im a Mac user. But, i feel im confident enough to change the fluids in my bike. Am i really just paying to have the tps zeroed out? And is it really necessary? It doesn't misfire, it seems to ride just like i want it to. I know im taking a chance not having them do something. But every time i walk into New River HD, these guys scare me by the lack of knowledge about Buells. I consider myself a novice at times, but, Im starting to realize that I could be their Buell "expert." (With the help of the BadWeb, of course)

So, I hate having to pay 100-200 or plus dollars to do something that I think i could have done myself by people that I think don't care.

Can i zero out my TPS without the software?
I don't know a whole lot about Buells. This is my first Buell and to my knowledge the first time i have ever had to deal with a TPS.

Im starting to wish i was stationed back in Camp Pendleton so i could see Al about this. He seems to be the duty expert from reading these other posts.

I know someone has the answer for me, you guys/girls are awesome, and I appreciate it in advance.
Thanks

No, you can not reset the TPS and AFV without the Digital Tech or similar.
You can set the timing without a computer, though.

Yea, well, i guess that's just the way it goes. Ive deciede to just let HD do this, for now. Just to make clear, what exactly do i need to do this myself from now on. I went on al's website and saw a couple of things. One is the Directlink ECM and the other is the diagnostic tool. I am eventually getting the full Micron Exhaust soon, I am just wondering if i need to get the Race ECM or can i remap mine?
I guess I just dont understand the difference between the diagnostic and the directlink. What is it the Directlink can do that the diagnostic cant do?
So, if i go with the Race ECM and the Micron Exhaust, do i just need to use the diagnostic tool to reset the TPS?
Can the Directlink do the same thing?
And if you use the directlink, can you continually remap your ECM or whatever? Or do you have to buy another?
I know, alot of questions, but if I don't ask, I won't know.
Thanks,

Mark

Here we go again with the reset the TPS and remap the ECM. I don't think many of us would actually risk doing this on a bike we just spent $9k - $12k on, and have no experience working on.

If you can get a Harley dealer to touch your bike please let me know. The HD dealers here won't touch my XBscg, and at least one Buell dealer won't touch the ECM.

The service will cost you just under $300 in the SD/LA area (<--- Look a specific statement!) I called every dealer in both counties, and then had mine done. The money is a good investment in your sanity

Yea, I spen the 269.00 (includes the use of synthetic in the price) and atleast i don't have to deal with it, now. But, it's frustrating, to say the least. The only reason Im even least bit butt sore over this is that this is the first motorcycle i feel obligated to have serviced. Even my Ducati was old enough that you could still do it all yourself.
Too much chip this and chip that to feel confident enough to do it yourself. I like the beating a dead horse thing though.
Beleive me, as soon as i wrote my questions, i felt i was doing that.
Remeber when you dad used to say "this is gonna hurt me more than it hurts you"? Well, that's about how it felt and feels.
I know im asking what everyone has seen alot of on these threads. But, I guess you just bite the bullet either way. Either at the dealership or with using your own gear and spending the extra money just to do it.

Hey everyone its easy to change the fluids in your buell.... do it yourself and save! the Tps reset is only $15.00 for my dealer to do and i bet it should be near the same for yours... so stop paying $200.00 for an oil change when you can pay $9 a quart of harley syn and another $12 for a k&n filter.
