although i have not found myself a used blast yet i was wondering if anyone has installed a larger gas tank on a blast. any pics or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks George | ||

There are people who've used other gas tanks on the Blast, mostly smaller, but I did see a Yamasukikawahonda type gas tank installed on one.You'll have to search the thumper pictures thread for various pictures. I'm quite sure no one makes a larger Blast specific tank for the Blast, but given the narrow width of the 'oil in frame' backbone, there are some that will fit. It's probably going to take some work though. Also check the 'links' section. The cafe racer stuff will probably fit (with work). | ||

You're pretty much on your own here. Other than having a custom tank made up, The other thing that I've heard of doing is to "blow up" the tank. I know that some dirtbike guys have done this: 1. Completely Drain gas tank. 2. Fill gas tank with boiling hot water. 3. use air line to pressurize tank through the petcock to about 5 psi. 4. Drain water and enjoy new found fuel capacity. I personally would not do this!!! It sounds dangerous as all hell, and you are thinning out the tank plastic. Not to mention that the tank cover is now not going to fit, and it's allready tough to get the tank to clear the rockerbox when you remove it... I'd be tempted to have a new tank made up, or live with filling up every hundred or so miles. James | ||

100 ~ 130 is a typical "tankfull" for me. I usually get 60 to 61 MPG, and I fill up around the time I hit reserve. | ||

you must ride faster than 60MPH my mileage always drops down to the 60 range when I ride the highway. When I keep it on the back roads at 40-50 I average 73plus | ||

I'd say I spend more than half my riding time above 60, so that makes sense. With back road riding, I get much better gas milage, like you do. | ||

I have 4 routes to/from work only one 1 is hi-way and I only take it if I'm really late (its longer but I can go faster) BTW mileage at 90mph is about 50mpg  | ||

Xgecko, I think my worst MPG on the Blast has been 45. Lots of elevation changes and 85+ for 100 miles will kill fuel economy... The Uly Usually gets 47-52 depending on conditions too. Of course, it always has bags on it, and it always a 2-up ride. James |
