OK, another question form the HD-newbie . . . . I tried to install the exhaust gaskets (you know, those recycled Brillo pads?) into their bores in the heads, but they're just an RCH too bigto slide in without goobering them up... . . . I've got them sitting inthe freezer (don't laugh, it works with flywhels and ring gears), but was wondering if anyone mighthave another tip as to how to get them seated? thanks again for the back-up, folks |

Looking for advise... Just received my SuperTrapp IDS, DynoJet and K&N filter for my '98 S3T. Any suggestion from past experience on # of discs and proper jet settings? Mennis |

okey dokey . . . .for future refence, when it's 96 degrees(F) outside, 2 hours in the freezer allows the header gaskts to slide right in! now, if I could just grow a couple more knuckles so I can get at the V&H rear mounting bolts more easily. . . ... . |

Is the Supertrapp IDS being referred to (above by LakeBueller) the new one that Al Lighton recently posted pix of, with the beefed up rear mounts??? If so is this a widely available part through Supertrapp dealers or (as Al noted it has a Buell part number) is it only available from Buell/Harley parts dealers? Is it available outside the USA yet (ie in Europe?). |

Jocklandjohn- It's not the new model. I ordered this prior to the new model release. |

I didn't dissect the new one, but there isn't any obvious internal differences between the old one and the new one. I'd suspect performance is the same, longevity improved. But mine's still in the box, awaiting the rest of my transmission parts before I remove the V&H and rip the S1W open. I have no idea about the availability of the new one, mine came right from Supertrapp. But the one I have is definitely for a 2.5" collector, doesnt' Europe use a 2" collector? So the European part number, if it exists, would certainly be different. Al |

Ahh crud! my rear mount on my V&H muffler broke here are some pics of it -- The mount that bolts onto the muffler and the muffler itself broke -- sucks!!! I have 1/2 of the mount left holding things in place (wired for safty) Has anyone ever done any welding to beef up or make a new rear mount and mounting retention area on the muffler? If so, please advise on how to fix this so it won't happen again. Thanks a bunch! Dan, 2000 X1 |

99' S3. I'm researching my exhaust system purchase to go with race ECM and K&N. So, Do I need the race header to get the mid range out or will any of the aftermarket mufflers do it for me? I realize that exhaust tone is personal preference but, compared to each other, which of the cans have less metallic, more glass pack type sound. I don't want to be loud but will put up with more volume to get the torque up. Can any of the cans with glass be packed with ceramic? If so, where can I get the ceramic packing? Thanks, Bill |

dan: i believe the v&h is made from aluminum and you should be able to weld it with a wire feed. at least that's what my metal working friend said. my v&h mount (between the exhaust and the motor) cracked this week while up in colorado (or at least that's when i noticed). gonna look into getting the mount replaced. good luck. iggy |

Josh called me from Cheyenne (Wyoming) last night, he was on his way down here from Sturgis and his race header equipped S3 shed it's Westek muffler and here's the result: (nevermind the raindrops on it) I went and picked him up. I had an extra tire and wheel, the original off my S2 (which got PM's when it was 15miles old). We stuck that on, and then we essentially made a muffler, since no local dealers had one in stock ... We bought a resonator type tip at an auto parts that has a little bit of baffling in it, got an adaptor made to get it to 2.5", welded on some hefty rear brackets, and he's now on the road for home! That muffler is slick ... bet it never breaks off there, either. Nice sound, too! Maybe I should go into business ... I offered to paint it for him, but he wouldn't let me, says he likes the "natural" look. See ya, AW |

Aaron wrote: Josh called me from Cheyenne (Wyoming) last night ... Hey Aaron, Sure is nice to know that someone like you exists helping a fellow hoologan that's broke down. Happy to hear that Josh didn't get hurt. Sure did destroy that PM wheel. BTW (not that it matters) were the bearings okay on the trashed wheel? Cheers, -JW:>) |

Hey Jim, Yes, I checked the bearings, and they were fine. But according to Josh, they had been replaced at 10,000 miles, 20,000 miles ago. I wonder if the original bearings just aren't a real high quality bearing. I don't really know, I just know I feel better swapping them out fairly early in their life for something of known quality. Josh is pretty lucky he didn't go down and get hurt, considering he was going highway speed when this happened. AW |

Dang, super fortunate too that he didn't drop it. So the dent in the rim is from hitting the muffler? Guess I'll wait to read the report once he types it up. Nice work on the muffler Aaron. Sometimes those "don't care how just make something that works" projects end up working very well. I'm going to guess he runs the AW muffler for awhile, it has character. |

Aaron, Was he riding solo? Hope so. If that had happened during the July CO gathering, we could have had two very hurt riders. Actually, after following him riding two up with the mrs, I think they would have come out OK. Very smooth rider. It was fun following them through the curves on the way to Cannon City. Real smooth and fluid, almost like a ballet. Neat to watch. Brad |

Aaron: First off a very sincere thaks for perpetuating the very spirit that makes Buell ownership special. THANK YOU. And...I'm with you. Wouldn't it be funny if you made another "Joshler", ran it on the dyno and found out that you, in a Rube Goldbeg moment had stumbled upon the Buell Holy Grail that Valine and Stippach have been searhing for! Glad everyone is OK. Again, THANKS. Court |

Mike: Yep, the muffler did that! Close examination revealed that the muffler canister was eating through the bolts that held the end cap on. The one bolt that was left was on the verge of being cut off. Brad: yes, Mariabelen stayed home this time. You're right, this could've been a whole lot worse. Imagine if it had been in heavy traffic and he had gone down. Check them mufflers, it's a safety thing. Court, y'know, I wanted to try it on the dyno, but he was in such a hurry to get home. Sounded like it had about a thousand horsepower. AW |

Hey Everyone, Installing my V&H today and noticed my Z bracket is kind of loose. The bolts seem to be tight, but the bracket wiggles around a bit. Is that the way it's supposed to work, or should I tighten it up? I didn't want to tighten it if it was supposed to move a bit (I can't imagine the entire assembly stays rigid does it?) thanks, J.D. |

That's an average speed of just 66 mph. At that rate I could get to Milwaukee from Atlanta in just 11.6 hours. It usually takes me 15. |

Josh is home safe :-) thank you for the concern and the comentaries. Now we need to get the S3T ready so it will look good next to the BBB (BuellBluesBlast) in their way down Deals Gap. A special thanks to Aaron and Susan for the rescue and the hospitality, he will stay and play next time....MbA :-) |

Paison, Have your dealer contact Daytona HD or do it thy-self. For the mild mannered street Buell go for the 2 1/2" version. As for quality? The welds could use a little extra work then again it is hand made. It is a hefty chunk of stainless steel, no weight savings in this dept......A few people have experienced some problems with the clamps, lately. I for one have had no problems at all. Those that have heard one will tell you they love it. Loki |

To Lake Bueller - If you haven't put on the "old" style Supertrapp yet, don't! Mine fell apart...literally...and seperated almost to the point of being a catapult risk. Demand that Supertrapp switch you for their improved model. I was told they just finished development work to design the new one, and no testing had been done on the old design. From what I heard, they should have ordered a recall on that unit, but I think they're just keeping their fingers crossed. See my full story under "Supertrapp users beware" in the StormFronts section. Also, I have 18 discs with a K&N...it's beautiful. Nice performance and not TOO loud. |
