Yesterday I bought some Carmichael pro taper platinum grey bars, I cut 1 inch off of them...almost an excact mirror of the Azonics.

sweet! love the color. how did you deal with the nubs on the controls? drill holes in the bars or snip 'em off? |

I drilled holes.... I sprayed a little black paint on a piece of wood, then dabbed it on the nub... then placed it where I wanted it. |

Rather then make a new thread I think Ill bring this one back to life! I am starting to think about bars for my Ss. Seems like the renthal ultra lows were a good candidate, then I searched and found that you guys really like the azonics. Not a fan of the polished but the Carmichael's are similar and would fit a bit better with my all black/red 09 XB12Ss Lightning Long. Here's the situation. I think the OEM position is perfect for cruising around town. I havent done very many high speed longer rides so I dont know if I would like being a bit more forward but I would imagine I would. In the twisties there is no doubt I would like it. I dont want to go back to super sport clip on lean. When I did that I got horrible problems with my throttle hand going numb and could only fix it by riding constantly with a throttle rocker (not the easiest or safest thing to do). Also it wasnt great around town, and without the rocker I had problems on the freeway for extended rides (anything over 40 miles, not very far at all). I just feel like in the twisties, where I spend a huge majority of my riding, that I am starting to get more aggressive with my body position (butt isnt moving yet but I am leaning forward, down and shifting my upper body considerabily to the left or right). How low compared to the Ss stock bars are the renthal ultra lows? Low's are marketed on American Sport Bike as a lower replacement to the uly so I imagine they are not much different then stock so I would need the ultra lows but they are very low. Reason I really like the idea of the azonic or carmichaels is because of what you guys said about leverage, as they are larger then the stock bars. Most of my riding is in the twistier bits where quick transitions is the name of the game over fast sweepers, where true clip ons rule. Basically what sounds like the right bar for me? How do the renthal ultra lows compare to azonics or carmichaels? How do both compare to stock? In the twisties? Freeway? Around town? Thanks! Oh and besides having to drill the holes for controls, do all these work easily with stock cables? Had some bad experiences putting clubmans on my old MB5. Got it to fit but the clutch cable was pinched big time, dont want to mess around with that on a nicer bike like the buell. |
