This is on a 2006 xb12s. I was trying to adjust the little throttle cables a bit to take in some slack, and now the throttle doesn't return to neutral all the time. It sometimes has a slow return, and others just stays where I put it. I readjusted the cables back to where I thought they were, but still sticky. Did I tighten something too much, or do the cables or throttle grip need some sort of lubrication? I went and bought the Shop Manual, but it just shows how to take them apart and put them back together. It doesn't mention any lube or adjustments. Thanks for any help! | ||

Just had that problem with my 'bolt I used a graphite lube and now its better than new. Good luck,Dave | ||

Teflon lubricant for cycle cables works well here. It comes in a spray bottle like WD-40. Your local bicycle shop or motorcycle shop should have something that you could use on the cables to lubricate them. If it is not lubrication issue then you need to loosen both of the cables at the handlebar. It can be tricky to get them tight but not too tight. | ||

 I use one of these. It works great. P.S. Wrap a rag around where the spray tube goes into the luber or you could get a shot in the eye like I did. (Message edited by dragonbuell12r on August 29, 2006) | ||

I had a problem with my throttle sticking when the bike was turned to the right. We traced the problem to a plastic shroud that is attached to the front of the frame. The cable runs through the shroud and was getting pinched with the bike turned. We re routed the throttle cable outside of the shroud. No more problems. |
