when you guys run the BRP try to avoid the last 100 miles on the northern portion. that would be Skyline drive in the shenandoa (sp) nat'l park. that stretch is full of RV's, campers, rangers, and many VERY SLOW looky loo's!!! rode it all last week, in the middle of doing it again today and tomorrow. Currently outside of Hillsdale, VA. the southern half of the parkway ROCKS!!! wish I could do it all again with you guys, but work calls and my vaca is over... |

Bart, We chose the weeks in September just for the reasons you described. The northern half will we barren in two weeks and won't see another influx of tourists until the leaves change in October. We'll basically have the parkway to ourselves... we hope. JB2 |

I can't believe the planets aligned, but they did, and I am *very* psyched about being able to participate in my first live Buell adventure! My current plans call for riding from Lebanon Ohio (near Cincinnati) on Sunday Sept 3rd, probably to near Knoxville for an overnight I will then go from Knoxville to Franklin on Monday Sept 4th, planning to be in Franklin around noon. Which is when and where I think everyone else is meeting up (if I understand the plan correctly). I'll probably try and hit Deals Gap or something else interesting on the route. I have not plotted my path yet. Monday night and Tuesday night I will be staying in Franklin at the hotel, and looking forward to any planned rides on Monday afternoon and all day Tuesday. I'll be heading back home on Wed Sept 5th, so depending on the route of the morning ride I may or may not be along for a few legs. Anyone who is heading my way and has a compatible schedule and wants to link up, give me a shout! If I have the plan wrong, please let me know! Bill |

Bill, We have an awesome loop ride planned for Tuesday that includes the Dragon. For Wednesday there's a really cool package of roads and attractions lined up. Our ascent northward on the BRP begins on Thursday. I'll be in Franklin on the evening of the 2nd and will be there all day on the 3rd and 4th preparing for the kick off party. You're welcome to help us get the grilling under way while we await the arrival of the others. Call my cell <765*499*0806> when you get to town. Monday night should be a night to remember. Ride Safe everyone! In some ways BRATPAC II started when Jim Attebery left from home today. He and Ferris will leave from the west Monday. Folks we're goin' on a road trip! JB2 |

I'd like to hook up with you guys when you get to the north end of the BRP and ride the last couple of days. I'm trying to get a few more from the DC area to ride down also. Any ideal where you might end up on the 12th or 13th. Paul |

Paul, We'll be on the Skyline and overnighting there on the 12th. On the 13th we'll wrap up the Skyline and overnight in Front Royal. On the morning of the 14th we'll head due west via US50. It looks like there'll be plenty of opportunities to hook up. Call my cell <765-499-0806> on the evening of the 11th and we'll be able to pinpoint a place to meet. JB2 |

I'll be working on your trip from Front Royal to Rt. 50 W. Hope to be able to lead you myself. But if the boss pulls out the 'wet blanket' I won't be able to do much about it.. Jb, call me when you're getting close. |

Ferris, (and any others travelling across I-40 to get to this run) The interstate is pretty chewed up in eastern New Mexico and western Texas between Tucumcari and Amarillo. One lane most of the way, and very slow going. Beware of the right side tire track near Amarillo, there are a series of potholes about 2' round and 2" - 3" deep. I thought I blew my fork seals I hit so hard, ouch! there were a series of 5 or 6 in a row in that lane. The rest of the interstate is in pretty good shape all the way to Knoxville. You'll get re-routed a short bit in Memphis, but only a few miles, no biggy. Have fun, wish I could have hung out and rode with you. |

Bartimus, that's a gorgemous bike - the body work looks mighty familiar! we'll be coming thru Alb a lot earlier than 4, and need to get to at least Tucumcari, or Amarillo, by shutdown Tuesday. can you break away for lunch or something? i'll keep in touch as we're inbound. see you soon. Yea, that bodywork SHOULD look familiar. I should have had you sign it before you shipped it to me, LOL. I think I have a case of road fever coming on, or a dental appointment or something. Tucumcari is 3 hours east of Albuquerque. Will post tonight if I get the afternoon off.
Here is a teaser from our recent trek through the parkway. My S2 and Mona's '06 Road King at one of the overlooks in Virginia. |
