My XB9 is closing in on 11,000 miles and I was hoping to put off the 10K service until winter. It is starting to run a little rough right off idle. At first I thought maybe bad gas, but a couple of tanks later, it is still rough - sometimes. TPS reset, maybe? Thanks, Bill |

Checked your plugs, plug wires, etc? |

Not yet. I need to see what is called for at the 10K service and start collecting parts. I think the VDST will be an early Christmas gift to myself. I don't think I can bring myself to take my bike to a dealer for the reset. Bill |

everything is done at the 10k. plugs are checked and often replaced, all fluids changed, rebuild forks, all cables lubed, clutch cover gasket and inspection cover gasket are changed. check primary chain tension, final belt tension, check pads, check tread wear and depth on tires.... |

Update: Changed plugs. Didn't help the hitch off idle but the bike revs easier and seems more snappy. Got the NGK Iridiums. This was the first time I've changed plugs on my XB, and it was easier than I thought. For sure the hardest part is getting the connector on and off. Got the VDSTS from American Sportbike. Had a Belkin USB-serial converter at work and tried it; it would connect and immediately disconnect repeatedly. Got the recommended Keyspan USB-serial adapter and got connected and reset TPS in about 5 minutes. Had to fiddle with the idle a little bit, idle is a little erratic. Hmmmm. Bike ran perfect all weekend in a variety of riding conditions; however, I'm pretty much convinced that the intake seals are leaking. I'll get out the propane and check them when I have time. The VDST is very cool. I spent much more time playing with it than it actually took to reset the TPS. Bill |

My nearest dealer, Skip Fordyce Harley-Davidson & Buell, Riverside, CA, (68 miles away), says they have “indefinitely suspended” doing any modifications to injection of ECM units. I can’t get them to reset my TPS. Does anyone know a shop that uses VDSTS in the Palm Springs / Riverside, CA area that can reset the TPS? If I try it myself, my bike will probably run backwards and blow oil out of the headlights |

Any other shop should be able to do it? That's pretty lame that Skip Fordyce wouldn't help you. |

Ted, I'm a bit far down here in San Diego, but if you get to here I'll reset it for free. Also, there is a BRAG ride scheduled for September 10th. We'll be meeting at the Ontario mall starbucks and doing the big Bear loop, and plan on going through Idylwild. I can bring my PDA with VDSTS on it and reset it if you can meet us anywhere along that route. But it's 1.5 weeks away. Al |

Al, I may have to take you up your generous offer. There is one shop here that may work on my efi Herman's Underground Cycles, 760-322-2708. I'll call them today. Even the harley shop that sold Buells in 2005 won't touch them now. I'm crossing my fingers Thanks everybody |
