How hard is it to remove the spring from the rear shock? I would like to paint mine red (I have a '03 Low with yellow shock) to match the Cherry Bomb Buell air box logo. Your thoughts. (Message edited by black_sunshine on August 19, 2006) |

You may need a spring compressor, I'm not sure though. I'm going off of what we needed to re-spring a works performance shock on a friends bike some years ago. Be careful! there is a lot of energy stored in that spring! It will hurt if it is not contained and relieved in a controlled manner. Also because the shock flexes a lot be sure the paint you choose is a little bit flexible lacquers for instance dry very hard and rigid. |

I was curious about the load on the spring. If I jack it up wouldn't the energy be almost nothing since the suspension would be extended all the way????? |

No, the spring is held in tension already by the shock body. Actually, under considerable tension. If you don't do it right, you can be injured. |

Like Jaimec says even on the lowest tension setting of the ramp there is still tension on the spring and you can be hurt very badly if you do not release the tension in a controlled manner. The tool is available from several sources like Traxxion dynamics for one. Most motorcycle shops will have one of these compressors. |

Thanks for the info guys. I will be sure to take extra special care when doing the removal. I have been inspired by the Cherry Bomb colors and I am doing my own version of it. |

B_S, your welcome! I have your decals waiting on you. I can't wait to see the final product! If your going red, then will you be needing all that carbon fiber?? |

Why not buy the racing springs from Buell, they're like $70 for all three. The rear spring in that kit is red already. Then you'll have a spare. |

Pwnzor....Won't fit my bike. '03 XBSL. Stiffer springs for more aggressive ride. Kit includes two front springs and one rear shock spring. Fits '05-later XB models (except '05 XB12Scg, '06 XB12Ss and XB12X). (from www.buell.com) |
