On the way home from work I noticed my dash was out. Then bike cut off. Dead battery. I played basketball after work so thankfully I was dressed for exercise. I pushed it home (~2 miles). Along the way I push started it once and had it jump started once. It would not stay running. I then charged the battery and tested the bike's charging system, it is not working. I will be dropping it off for the side stand recall so I'll let them determine if the culprit is the regulator, stator or both. Frank |

The same thing happened to me. It was the voltage regulator. |

yup been there done that %$#@&^%$# when you see that dash go out you have a little bit of time before the battery goes completely dead, if your far from help turn off high beam, and any thing plugged in to buy a few more miles. We switched batteries twice with other bikes to get back to civilization. |

sounds like a good reason to install a switch for the main headlight. |

I did the mod to run both lights at same time so I quickly went to low beam only. I was stuck in rush hour traffic so it didn't halp. With a fully charged battery how far can I get? Closest Buell dealership is ~20 miles away. I am thinking it s/b no problem. Frank |

I would have H-D come to your house to pick it up. You may find yourself stranded and calling anyway. If you put a charge on the battery in the meantime, it will be easier for them to run diagnostics. |

sounds like a good reason to install a switch for the main headlight. Or carry a spare voltage regulator... |

Well, I called closest Buell dealer (Seminole) about bringing in ULY. They advised towing as shop is 25 miles from my house and "no way" I could make it. I charged battery, took out fuse for lights and made it with no issues. Bike will get side stand recall done, electrical glitch repaired and I mentioned the engine shutting off (kill switch recycle) and possible BAS fix. They said they'd look into that problem. I was very impressed with the treatment I received taking bike in. We'll see how the repairs go. Frank |

I remember a story from a BMW'er rider who lost charging system on a trip.. bought a 12V deep cycle car sized battery, tied it to the luggage rack and ran off of it all day. At the hotel each night, removed it and put it on a charger. Ran several days like that to make it back home.. Just an idea if you are ever in the boonies and have this problem.. MB |

Mike How is it going with you? I hope your bike is running fine. A RSS is all I have done to mine since May. Well, I also had the race ECM settings downloaded into my Direct link ECM too. Runs great now. Frank |

Frank You are a better man than me - no way I could push that 2 miles!! Glad to hear you got the FI sorted out. I have a race kit in the box but still havn't decided to go from Stealth mode or not! After the tail light at Appleton, no other issues.. I have the VDST and reset the TPS (it wasn't done by dealer at 1K service) other than that running great! I love the bike - Like a giant KTM DukeII.. MB |

Ftd: Frank, are you running the stock muffler with the Direct Link, or something else? Doug |

This is happening mostly to the black Ulys. The ORANGE ULYS seems to keep their batteries energized naturally! |

Dragon_slayer... I just replaced my School Bus stock seat with an all-black '07... Does this mean I might expect less efficient battery energizing soon? |

Ka5ysy , I have a KN filter and standard Drummer. I had no success in getting a good DL tune so I am running the race ECM settings (thanks to Al) until American Sport Bike starts selling the DL map for this set up. Frank |

Just got a call from dealership. Bike sat until kickstand parts arrived. They ordered them when I dropped the bike off. Charging issue wasn't addressed until the kickstand was worked on (problem is the stator). Due to waiting for parts (stator) I won't get the bike until next week. You'd think Buell dealers would have a recall kit or two on hand. I also can't believe they don't stock stators. Down 2 1/2 weeks for a kickstand and stator, dang! Frank |

FTD, I'm feeling your pain My dealer still insists that there's no recall. I'm not sure what I'll do at this point, but I do know that after years of dealer neglect I'm tired. G2 |

I am frustrated as I have a Road King which never has issues and a 9 year old Bourget that if it went to my local indy shop for a stator and kickstand would be done in a day. This Buell dealership issue (with few exceptions) adds enough grief (at least to me) that if my ULY is a troublesome bike it will be gone and probably not replaced with another Buell product. Unfortunate as I enjoy the bike. Frank |

I'm still with you! If you take the RK/Vrod in you get immediate service -- they don't break for the most part. If you roll the Buell in you get nothing. Tiring is the only thing that comes to mind. I, too, totally dig my Buells, but the dealership experience is taking it's toll and my tolerance is at an all time low. G2 |

G2 - did you get a recall letter? Daves has run a few vin numbers to see if the database was correct on who had affected bikes and who didn't. I'd PM him your vin number and then go to Buell Customer Service if your bike is in need of the replacement side stand. Our dealer ordered the part when we called for routine service. They said not to bring the bike in until the part was there. No need in the Uly sitting in their shop while we waited on parts. Couldn't argue with that point! They actually knew about the recall before I mentioned it regarding our list of issues at the 10,000 mile service. |

Bigdaddy: I have several issues "in the works" and have been on the phone with Buell tech several times today. If you'd like, you can send me the name of the dealer and I can, politely and professionally, have your problem solved in under 15 minutes. Court |

Wow... I've had my bike for 4 weeks now. And for a week and half of that, it's been in the shop. The exhaust valve needed replaced and I am still waiting for parts. I understand they have to wait, but I made the appointment 3 weeks ago (1000 mile service and exhaust fix) I was suprised to hear that they didn't order the parts when I booked the service. So now...I've had my bike rideable for two weeks out of 4. Yeah for me... Just venting... I know it's not a dealer issue but it's just funny that it is taking this long to get some exhaust parts. |

Funniest thing happened on the way to The Forum. The local shop actually returned my call and informed me there's a recall on the jiffy stand. Parts are on order. G2 |

Michael, It doesn't take that long to get parts. Something else is likely to blame. |

Funny thing. I called the dealer yesterday demanding the bike back for the long weekend. When I went to get it and pay for my 1000 miler, the parts guy came out with my servo along with my service manual. Just came in. So, I'll take it back to them next week. I must ride it... |
