This weekend is the Ramapo 500! Two days, 500 miles of nothing but backroads! Is anybody here going? |

A sad note: Gasper Trama has passed away. Almost everyone who rides a motorcycle in the New York City/Long Island area knows Gasper Trama. He and his school probably taught 70% of the cyclists on the road today how to do it properly. I don't know any details other than he was admitted to the hospital this past weekend, and had a fatal heart attack some time this morning. When I get more details, I'll post it. If I know Gasper and how well he was loved, this is going to be one of the largest funeral processions in area history... |

The family requested, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Lady Liberty Inc., in care of Claudia Hershow - http://WWW.LADYLIBERTY.COM Mrs. Trama personally stated that motorcycles are more than welcome at both the viewing and the funeral. |

There was a mistake in my last post. The website is http://www.ladylibertyride.com/ and the woman's name is Claudia Hirshon. My apologies for not checking before I posted. All of the information can be found on the MANYS website at http://www.manys.org/index1.htm (look on the right hand side of the page). The first session this afternoon was mobbed. I expect tonight's to be even more crowded. Sunday night should be incredible, as the two-day Ramapo 500 event will be over and the participants will be able to come down and pay their respects. |

All motorcyclists wishing to participate in Gasper's Funeral procession Monday morning, July 17 should meet in the parking lot by the funeral home at 8:30 AM. There will be a police escorted procession from the funeral home, past Gasper's house and finally ending at the church. The family is having Gasper cremated, so the procession will end at the church. Once again, the funeral home is: Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home 34 Hempstead Avenue Lynbrook, NY 11563 516-599-3600 http://tinyurl.com/za6u5 The Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Raymonds 263 Atlantic Avenue East Rockaway, NY 11518 http://tinyurl.com/hlaot |

No, I was stuck at home because I had to work a Disaster Recovery Drill. Just as well because I wouldn't've wanted to miss my friend's wake. I understand they observed a moment of silence Saturday night at dinner? Glad you had a good time. I LOVE that event. They have a Fall Foliage (one day) event in October that's worth doing as well. |

It's not actually a "Buell Event" but in two weeks (August 27th) my club is sponsoring the sixth annual "Pop's Run" charity ride to raise money and awareness for Amyloidosis Research. Amyloidosis is a rare but insidious disease that is often fatal because the symptoms aren't usually diagnosed in time. We went through a lot of trouble to find nice, twisty roads with little traffic (and that's hard to do on Long Island) but I think you'll all enjoy it. Besides, wait till you see the activities we have planned at all of the checkpoints! For more information on the run and the disease, see our web page at http://www.popsrun.org/ I hope to see more Buells than just mine there this year! |

ummm..I think you'll get better results in the "For Sale" Section. I just can't comprehend not riding anymore just cause of a few mis-haps! If worse came to worse, I'd get out of the sportbike mindset and get myself a nice cruiser at least....but that's me... |

yeah, i listed it there too. its not a few small mishaps. this incident was high speed,a moron on an 06 gixxer 1k that shouldnt be on one decided not to make the right hand turn on southern state and took me with him. ive been riding 14 years had a few scary ones and have decided to walk away while i still can walk. i have a house and bills to pay,and a 2 1/2 year old daughter i want to watch grow up. |

Cruisers?? Perish the thought. Standards or Sport Tourers are far more flexible and practical. Go as fast or as slow as you want and always comfortable. |

I made an interesting discovery yesterday. I was out riding with my friend (and do you think a bright orange Buell and a bright red Ducati attracted attention? Hell YEAH!!). We took Route 114 through Shelter Island from Greenport, and disembarked in Sag Harbor. We followed Route 114 all the way down to Route 27 (Montauk Highway). While we were waiting for a break in traffic so we could make the left turn to head eastward, I happened to look up at the street sign. At that point where Route 114 ends at Route 27, it is called "Buell Lane!" Unfortunately due to the heavy traffic, I wasn't able to position my bike under the sign to snap a photo. Something to do in the future, I think: http://tinyurl.com/e9vqf |
