Just got the Blast runnin again. Had to jump start it w/ my truck (truck not runnin') when I pulled the cables the headlight dimmed, and the 'lectric odo went blank. I'm guessin I need a new battery, I think its the original one. Next, after she was warmed up, oil was coming out of the filler hole. I'm guessing its too full, but I put 2 qts in per the service manual. So I'm stumped. But she sure sounded great w/ the new jardine!!!!!!!! LOL |

Whenever you change the oil start by putting no more than 1 1/2 qts of oil in (less if you didnt change the filter)then check it. 2 quarts will overfill it. Also, always try to change it when hot. Unfortunately the oil level in frame causes most people fits. Its very easy to overfill and you can only get an accurate reading when hot. PS How did the new Jardine sound? |

Thanks Erik, I was going by the manual, it said w/filter 2 qts. Guess now I gotta drain some. Do u know about the other thing w/ the battery? U think thats all it is, the battery, or u think its something else? Oh, yeah, the Jardine sounds awesome, kinda like a machine gun. Pretty effin loud tho. But hey, LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Well, if the battery is the original, thats a safe bet. 4 years is pretty good for a battery. Would help to run some tests but do you have a battery charger, hydrometer or voltmeter? Though, if it is the original battery, it is probably bad or gonna be this year. I agree about the loud pipes but if you want to start a heated discussion somewhere/anywhere, thats a good topic to bring up!!! PS where in Jersey? |

hey, I wouldnt jump start a bike, you can blow your alternator, or your voltage rectifier, or your whole dang wiring harness. its ok to do between 2, 12 volt bikes... sorta... but definitely DO NOT jump the bike with a car or truck.... you will kill your bike ! my buddy has a 93 honda and he is going through this. sure its a jap bike but American bikes can get hurt this way too. |

If you are going to jump a bike (like I did with an XB on Saturday) do NOT start the car. When the battery gets below 1.8 volts there is no way to charge it (I found out by trying for 24 hours with a battery tender). I did the jumper cable routine from a Saab to a Buell in the proper order. Started the bike. Pulled the cables, to satisfy my curiousity, and the bike died immediately. The bike must run, with the jumper cables, until battery volatge exceeds 1.8 volts. Then you can let it run or, as I did, leave it on a battery tender. Took 24 hours on a battery tender. I am not reccomending this procedure, just telling you what worked for me. Court |

Thanks guys, I had the truck off when I jumped it. It didn't die when I pulled the cables off tho. It stayed running but the headlight got real dim and the odo. went blank. So thats why I thought it was the battery, and not the charging system. |

Cool, got a new battery today, so far so good. Drained some oil (abt 3/4 of a quart since some blew out last night). Now I gotta take it out tomorrow, let er warm up and check the oil again. Then I can see how loud the Jardine really is. Didn't wanna take it out the other day w/ the batt. acting up. I've had to push it home once already, don't want to do it again. Thanks for the help. |

I got my bike going again, I really am thinking it was the intake boot all along, I can't believe I didnt check that first, as EZ always says...LOL, the fuel issue might have been just really low, I did trim the tube in the screen at the petcock, but I just did a 20 mile ride and she seemed just fine. Thanks for everyones' suggestions and help. |

OK, this started back in May, no matter the temp. the blast would tun bad for the first 10-15 min of riding, then it would clear up. Tried bigger jets, unplugging the AE, and other stuff, now it's worse. It barely starts, popping out of the carb, and when it does, it doesnt stay running long unless i'm on the throttle. And the whole time it's popping thru the carb. I changed the jets again, cleaned the carb, changed the boot, changed and gapped the plug, drained a bunch of water out of the gas, checked the vacuum plug on the carb, checked the vent line, and opened the gas cap for venting, and checked the diaphram in the top of the carb. Don't think I missed anything. Oh, and the Ign. module is flashing when it is cranking. It is a 2000 w/ the pro series intake and jardine exhaust, 45/175 or 45/185 jetting (Switched to 180 and 185 when trying to figure this problem out because it seems like it is not getting enough gas) The clutch switch is bypassed and the kick stand switch is bypassed. I also unplugged the AE but that also unplugs the TPS so I dont think the bike will run w/out it. Did I miss anything? Sorry this is so long, but I figured I'd mention that I've tried all regular stuff first. Thanks |

Sounds like a bad enrichner - you said when it is warmed up it is fine - put your jetting back to 45/175 and replace your electronic enrichner. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Gearheaderiko said the same thing back when this all started, so I unplugged it and since it plugs in w/ the tps I guess thats why it still wasn't right. Guess I'll give it a shot tho. Thanks |

The connectors come apart real easy so you can isolate the parts you are trying to check. Back firing out the carb would indicate a lean mixture..... |

Wonder if it would be better to find a cheap used CV 40 carb w/out the autoenricher. But what would become of the TPS? Would the bike run with nothing hooked up? Or should the wires be connected together to complete the circuit? or pull the TPS out of the carb, hook it back up and hide it somewhere? I'm sure it's been done but I dont recall seeing it in detail. |

The ignition module uses the TPS signal to assign ignition mapping. So I don't think you can do it. Now to address the problem you are experiencing: 1:It runs poorly when cold 2: It runs fine when hot If it is popping through the carb when cold it indicates a lean mixture. I would check out your AE first, seeing you have cleaned your carb and installed a larger primary jet. If the AE is suspect and you replace it and it still has the cold running problems, then I would suspect the ignition timing, if that is OK then I would suspect the ignition module. Does that sound reasonable? Out of curiosity, did you get the slide diaphragm installed properly without pinching it? |

While I believe its better to leave it stock and fix the problem first (thereby not compounding problems), you can install a non Auto Enrichener CV carb off a Sportster or Big Twin if: Use the same jetting as you would the Blast. Disconnect the accelerator pump (it kills the bike, unless you want to spend A LOT of time dialing it in). The Blast throttle cable bracket must be used off the Blast carb (unless you have all the CV brackets). You'll need to make a choke cable bracket (the bracket that comes off the coil and holds the small piece of bodyplastic that hides the petcock is perfect)! A used carb may not be a good carb. Go cheap! The absence of a TPS reportedly leaves the ignition in the full throttle advance curve mode. Much the same as just having a mechanical advance that only relies on rpm. You may not notice any difference in running, just really freakin rich on startup! |

Thanks everyone, I decided to just get the enrichener, just waitin on Dave for a price. Is there anything special about removing and replacing? BTW Swampy, I checked the diaphram a few times, I got it back in w/out pinching it or anything. Thanks tho, I thought the same thing (Message edited by jerzydevil on August 14, 2006) |
