The rivets on the front section of the pipe have loosened up. Looks like the holes on the outside of the can got bigger and are too big for reriveting. So I drilled two new holes and have found they have loosened also. Seems like the metal is just too soft for this violent engine. Anyone experience any problems. The solution I’m looking at now is some kind of epoxy. | ||

I had the same thing happen on 2 Jardine pipes. The only solution I came up with was to replace the jardine with something else. I now Have a Spec Ops Pipe and have had no issues. Although Im still waiting for a custom mapped ECM for a XB12 w/a Spec Ops exhaust  | ||

Some Jardines pull apart and some dont, my old one never did but I sold it anyways for a drummer. | ||

From what I've seen on other bikes, and heard on this board, the rivets loosening like that may be sign that your pipe needs to be repacked. Is it developing hot spots on the sides too? My Jardine hasn't developed any of these problems, but I'm getting ready to re-pack it this winter anyway. The rivets need to fit pretty snug in the holes too. If they feel loose, go to the next bigger size of rivet. | ||

It needs to be repacked. What happens is when the packing burns out, the little explosions, for those of us who don't have a tune, and just the overall pressure from the exhaust will now be right against the can instead of having the added cushioning from the packing. This causes the can to come apart. There are a couple of solutions. Stay on top of packing, use stainless packing so it never needs to be done again, or use stainless packing and have the can tig welded shut (pretty impracticle if you don't have the means to do it on your own. | ||

Where does one get this packing? Regular packing and the stainless packing? I wouldn't mind doing the stainless packing and Tig it all up solid. | ||

Some bike shops sell the packing in bags hanging on the wall. About $25 a bag. | ||

The company Staintune sells stainless steel exhaust packing. As has been said before, most motorcycle shops will have exhaust packing available. It's a tightly packed fiberglass (or similar) material in most cases. | ||

You can buy the kit from Jardine which includes the packing and rivets. In regards to the rivets pulling out, I haven't had this problem. But it may be due to the fact that after having a problem during installation with the top of the muffler hitting the case. The solution was a rubber mallet. Have about 1/4 in of clearance now. | ||

My muffler doesn't touch the case. All the shaking has enlarged the holes. | ||

mine did not come loose untill the packing burnt out, and the tube started rattling.running hollowed can right now and rivets have'nt came loose yet | ||

I got the sealed stainless steel rivets from a boat dealership parts department. You will need those to reassemble it. | ||

I can't find the SS exhaust packing anywhere. I called up some staintune dealers and they don't sell any packing. Call up jardine also and they don't sell packing either. Whats going on here???  | ||

Staintune used to sell their packing in a kit. I had one of their pipes on my VF 1000 F interceptor. A stainless steel wool will do the job in absence of a proper packing kit, but you will need to pack it in rather tight. (wear gloves) | ||
