Okay heres what happened. just washed the bike. started it to let it warm up then took it around the block real quick to air dry the bike. get back, shut it off and proceed to dry off any remaining water drops. to find an oil leak by the swing arm. checked all the lines, nothing, fill/dipstick. nothing. after further inspection the swing arm cracked on the weld infront of the tire half way up the weld. and it leaks like 1 quart every 30 min. so i topped it off and took it to harley. 2 blocks from my casa. they were astonished to hear and see what happened. new swingarm being order monday. wtf could have caused it? i dont think debre. not much clearance between the tire and swingarm. and i was only goign 20mph threw the block. all input welcome |

Are you sure it didn't get run over by a dump truck while you weren't paying attention? |

haha funny guys. but seriously.... i have a race kit witch has only been installed for a week exactly tomorrow. i dont think the added hp/touque could have caused this. seems like a faulty part from the factory? im lucky i didnt go on a ride right after washing the bike. |

Agreed... sounds like a bad weld. Get a new one. |

Good job spotting the problem. Nice to hear it is getting fixed quickly. A bad weld can happen. It can also be hard to spot. Congrats on a unique issue! I am tired of hearing about the same old stuff. (: |

Ryan, Any chance you can post up a photo of that cracked swingarm? Please also email your VIN to me if you would, or just fill it in on your profile. We definitely need to follow up on this very serious issue. Thank you, Blake |

Remember that Buell changed the design (from one-piece to two-piece welded) and changed suppliers for the swingarm in 2006. |

Good eye catching this. This is the first problem I've heard of with the new design swing arm. |

When you washed it was it hot from riding????? it was sitting in the garage for about 2 hrs. after rideing it. i felt the cases and swing arm b4 i even started. it was warm but not hot. i didnt even use water for about another hour. i first sprayed the bike with grease lightning, to disolve the brake dust. then used a wash mit with soapy water on it to rinse it off. but the water in the bucket was car wash water. so after the soapy rinse down i sprayed the bike off. the whole time the bike was not hot. no steam, no fast evaporation of water. just warm to the touch as if it were to be sitting in the sun all day. then i started the bike and it ran in the drive way for a little while it warmed up and started to dry its self off. when that started i took it around the block once. but before i left there was no oil on the ground. after coming back parking it and shutting it off. there was an oil puddle by the time i walked to get a microfiber towle to finish drying it. |

was the rear axle ever torqued down without the swingarm brace installed? That would be my only guess as to what could have caused it, beside just "one of those things" |

That would be my only guess as to what could have caused it, beside just "one of those things" good question. that could be something to look into. but ive never had the rear apart yet. only 2700 mi on the bike. so it could have happened at the factory. ill bring up that issue with the dealer. it sounds plausable |

I had the same problem back in June. The leak was about 6" up on the wield. It was replaced under warrenty.I wasn't doing stoppies either. Even if you were that wield should hold. |
