What a great trip! 2600 miles over six days on a great motorcycle. I have never had such a trouble free trip to Sturgis. The fan did'nt bother me in the least. No pinging or any sense of the bike not liking the heat. My buddy has a BMW R 1150R and was used to seeing me grind the floor boards off of my bagger trying to keep up with him in the twisties. That all changed. I no longer have chicken strips. The Pilot Roads performed really well considering I had higher pressure in them for the long drone on the freeway. It seemed like fewer people clogging Needles Highway and Iron mnt. road when we went through. I hit 130 on a stretch of hwy. out to New Castle Wyoming with my bags full and no problems. This thing corners like its on rails, but the lack of engine braking on some of the hairpin downhill switch backs was very evident. I saw 3 other Ulys on the trip. One black one with a +16" Cee baily's windshield. I wish I would have bought a bigger one cause my neck was killing me fighting a headwind for 800 miles from Custer home to Duluth. I just hit 11K miles on the bike and truly love it. As I mentioned in another post, we picked up a cheap used Lowrider to keep momma happy and I get to keep the Uly! I had been to Sturgis 8 other times on 3 different Harleys and this was by far my best trip. I almost forgot, I spent a lot of time talking to a Buell rep at the display in Rapid City (he said he really enjoyed talkig to someone who new something about Buells)and it turned out he works on the assembly line. I nicely explained the problems I had with my Uly and how I was impressed with how Buell and my dealer handled getting everything fixed. He had'nt heard of BadWeb so I turned him on to that. Anyway, good to be home. Hope everyone that went to Sturgis had as good a trip as me. Tim (Message edited by fastfxrs on August 11, 2006) |

I forgot to mention what made it such a memorable trip. I got up and sneaked out of camp early one morning (could'nt do that on my harleys) and went exploring some dirt roads around Custer. Nothing too difficult unless you count having to dodge cowpies left in every corner by free range cattle. I checked off a few roads on my map and there are so many more I want to try. My BMW riding buddy is getting some sort of dual-sport next year and says he'll join me. I was kind of sleep deprived when I went on my ride that morning and the first sign I saw when I turned off onto the dirt made me realize how dyslexic I can be. I thought it read "No Singing" I was bummed cause I had a song in my head that was dying to get out. I later realized it said "No Signing". I didn't matter either way-great road! Tim |

Glad you got out and hit the dirt roads. I am heading out that way the first week of Sept. I like it less crowded, and I hope the roads will be mostly empty by then. i cant wait to see the needles again, it is so pretty there. |

Taking a Ulysses to Sturgis would actually make going back there fun again! I hate going there for the traditional drunken traffic jam. Thanks for the post Ffxrs. I just gotta figure out a way to get one and not sell my other bikes and keep my wife. |

Hey fast- I had one of those sign misreading experiences. I was at the mall and saw this place with the name up in huge red illuminated letters. I thought, "how embarrassing it must be to be seen going into a place called "The Total Loser Clinic". I then realized the name was really "The Total Laser Clinic".
