Nice looking exhaust Al... what is the cost? I assume that will slip right on to the Buell factory headers on a '00 M2 cyclone? How is the sound at low RPM? I don't want it louder... when the guy on the XR600 thumper complains about how loud your bike is you know you are already about as loud as you want to go  Bill | ||

Sorry, Bill, I can't answer your questions. I don't know the cost because it was the warrantee replacement for the old style IDS that failed. I'd suspect similar to the old IDS, which was about $349 I think. OTOH, it now has a BUELL part number, so maybe they need their 15% markup on top of that. It should bolt right onto your M2, it's made for it. Sound is adjustable, it's a trapp with discs. It should be able to go anywhere from near stock quiet (with performance issues) to Kooks Loud if you use lots of discs with washers and no end cap, and anywhere in between. I'm not real crazy about exposed disc systems because they don't direct the exhaust, but the IDS is a pretty nice system. If this one holds up, and it looks like it should, it'll be a winner. Al | ||

I would still worry about one of the front mounts breaking. I can't see why it is not a full-around front strap that is welded. I was glad I did not get the IDS as one person I know had it break after 50 miles, But my V&H has held together for 10K miles, but I do like the tunable features. | ||

Preston, Good eye! Yea, the end cap came that way on the muff, but it's no issue because you have to take it off to install the discs anyway. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Three screws at 120 degrees hold the exhaust nozzle end cap on, so you can have it point one of three different directions, but of course, everyone will pick out and down. I was gonna rotate it for the photo, but was in a hurry and wondered if anyone would notice! Yea, 100% stainless, including the clamps. Al | ||

Al... It looks like the rear brackets on the supertrapp use the existing Buell "z" bracket. See, that's a problem for me because I don't have it any more... not that I couldn't order a new one but IT'S SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS! Plus I think I want to try a full system this time. I'm considering powder-coating my headers and new VH slip-on black. Has anyone ever done this before? Does it hold up? Can I find any shop that does powder-coating, or does something special need to be done since this is a high temp application? TIA, J.D. | ||

Orion, I had my header done at Jet-Hot in a Sterling Silver finish. It stands up well and they warranty it for 3 years. Other colors like black that you are looking for are supposed to stand up to heat better than the silver. It was $115 if I remember for the header and I even had them do the elbow on my V&H cause V&H would not sell me just the elbow (dumb). | ||

OK, So I put a V&H muffler on my 00 X1, then I go to the dealer and say -- hey bud, hou 'bout that new front exhaust bracket for my bike. The service guy says no problem (I'm dropping the bike off for it's 500 mile service at the time). Later the next day I cruise in to pick up my bike, and notice the old front mount still on. I ask about that and I'm told "The new mount will not work with a V&H muffler". Hmmmm, being the sort of guy that always wants new shiny things, I was a bit disheartened. I say to the fine fellow, "Well, that's all well and good, but how 'bout you let me have the part in case I ever sell my bike (YEAH -- right) and want to put it back in its stock configuration?" His reply is a big negative -- says he can't do that because he has to send in the bracket to Harley as a 1 for 1 swap. What's up?!?!? Can this be true??? If anyone has information concerning the facts in the compatability of the V&H with the new bracket or about getting that part to save for a rainy day, please let me know. Thanks a bunch! Dan | ||

Dan: I have used the new bracket kit with a variety of exhaust pipes , such as.......................... * stock muffler * Vance & Hines * Buell "Pro Series * White Brothers "E" series * Borla I know it will work with several others , if your dealer will not cooperate find another that will. A good dealer will also get you a 2001 shock at the same time , if you mention "excessive bottoming" to be the reason you would like a new shock. Jeff | ||

I talked to the dealer again, he said no problem if I really wanted the new front mount. Without even asking for it, he ordered me a new rear shock and told me it would be free I guess that boy ain't all bad. Have fun out there! Dan | ||

Has anyone had a problem with a Daytona Boss's rear clamp breaking? Just happened today, it's only been on a week. It broke at a bend, still had a good hold on the muffler (just a rattle sound made me find it). Yesterday, I tried dyno. I showed up, dealer got my bike strapped down, technician walked by and said "staple" as he pointed at the rear tire, I just about cried at the price for a new tire and mount and balance. Must have picked it up as I pulled in the parking lot (didn't even press in much). Anyhow, we still got the dynorun done, unfortunatly they had everything set up wrong (chart says I've got an RPM range from 1700 to 3500 (I hope not), peak HP 71 @3000RPM (hope not again), peak torque 130 @2450RPM (I could only hope)). I'm going to call Monday to get a new rear exhaust hoop clamp. | ||

Dart, What is it lately, seems others are having various probs with the bands on the BOSS. Just dropped the muffler a couple weeks ago to hang the polished header and looked over the BOSS real good. No problems or inklings of any to come. I have over 10k miles with it on the M-Duece. Go figure.... jmho here: seems all the problems are surfacing with those who are using the new style front hanger. Loki | ||

Dart, replacement seems to be time limited, after you have to pay for replacement. It is not an obligated official recall, kind of goodwill thing. | ||

I called down to Daytona HD this morning. The parts counter clerk had no problem sending a replacment (no fuss,no muss). Should get it in a couple of days. I'll probably have the one I've got now welded and keep for a spare (just in case). | ||

Dart, One thing you will really like about the BOSS is its lifetime warranty. Not the muffs, nor the bikes, its your lifetime. Rek told me that to my face when I got mine. btw: really nice guy to pull aside and talk all things Buell with. When and if you can catch him..... Glad they pushed one right out to you. Loki | ||

Not much, The pipes were built for Daytona HD not Rek. He just facilitated them being built. If all else fails I know where the guy is who made them. He lived just a short ride from my old place down there. Loki | ||

KOOKS QUESTION: I just ordered Andrews N4 cams and a set of .015 oversize "hurricane" pistons and rings from Brian Nallin. My next purchase is looking like a Kooks exhaust system. Battle2Win says this is a really well made system with noticable performance gains. Has anyone used the Kooks on a 99 and up M2? If so, whats your take? Is the front mount "Beefy"? With proper jetting and tuning, was there a seat of the pants improvement? | ||

Anyone having trouble with the Race Kit Front mount not retaining the clamp? Installed Race Kit Sunday AM. Rode about 100 M to make the Indy (not making the race )blues go away. Got home, clamp on front hanger had moved shifted almost the distance of the clamp towards the rear of the bike. Repositioned last night, will ride again this PM Just wondered if anyone has similar experience. Thanks Tom | ||

All . . . . .busted a header stud over the weekend, and decided to take the opportunity to replace the stock can with a Vance and Hines . . . While reading the manual (!), I found the following shampoo loop . . . .. In the header section, it says, "Install the muffler first." Fair enough, I thinks to myself. In the muffler section, it says, "If the header was removed, install it before installing the muffler." Hmmmm I figure I'll install them both, leaving all the fasteners loose, and snug them all up slowly . . . . am I on the right track? Also, I can't find a muffler clamp fast enough . . .if I reuse the old one, will my hair fall out, the garage roof start leaking, and athelete's foot return? thanks, as always, for the help, gents and ladies | ||

Reuse the muffler clamp? That is all I ever did. Fitting both loosely and then tightening them up works well for me. Marriage is what will make your hair fall out. |
