About 1/3 of the time when I hit the starter I get a clunk sound in the tranny area. Then I check to find that the tranny has snuck into 1st. No I didn't leave it in first gear. Been riding for years. Been happening about for 2 weeks now. And guess what. Speedo went out today. Lots of metal on the sensor. So that tells me somethings not right. Any input? where and what to check first? ___ Also need a stock carb bracket and some type of crankcase vent system |

the bright spot is that once the clutch is opened up, the tranny is said to be easy to get out.., sounds like a trip in there is in order. IIRC mebe 5th gear assy bearings just a guess (Message edited by oldog on August 10, 2006) |

Is the metal in chunks or is it the metallic whiskers... like on the magnetic drain plug? |

You will always find "whiskers" on the plug. No biggie.Opening up that side is straight forward and pulling off clutch will expose all sorts of things that could be the trouble-- shift pins, tensioner shoe, etc etc. Let us know what you find. |
