Hello all. Last Friday, I received and put on a Special Ops pipe from Odie (AWESOME WORK!... but you guys already knew that) and it sounds great! Yesterday was my first chance to ride my 12R with the pipe on it. As I slowly accelerated and switched through the gears, I noticed a weird and subtle vibration throughout the bike when the needle hit 3k on the tach. I could feel it in the bars and under my butt. Also, it felt a bit of a drop in acceleration rate with the throttle held steady. My 12R is an '05 with just under 1500 miles on it. I recently (1000 miles) put Syn3 in it and a K&N on it as well. I didn't notice anything with the stock pipe. Any ideas? Could it be a harmonic or resonance frequency something or other because of the new pipe? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jo |

BTW, everything that was taken apart during installation of the pipe was torqued to spec. |

The 12R comes stock with a solenoid operated valve in the muffler, doesn't it? Chances are the aftermarket pipe does not use this feature and your bike is no longer "interacting" with the exhaust as designed. This might explain the drop in throttle response but probably not the vibration. Is the new pipe much lighter than stock? If so, maybe there's just less mass to absorb the engine's natural vibration and you're feeling the difference transmitted through the frame and bars. |

Sparky, thanks for the input. The Special Ops pipe servo is still connected and does still interact with the air/fuel input. Also, the pipe is the stock pipe with 4" cut off and the guts redone, so yes, it is lighter. I was wondering the same thing regarding absorbing some of the vibration. The more and more I ride it and listen to it, I am thinking that it is a resonant vibration thing. I rode it again today for about 20 miles and tried to figure out if I am really losing acceleration or if it's just my panicking imagination. Jury's still out. Thanks again Sparky |

Asdf, thanks for the link. That helps a lot. I'm gonna go ahead and check the primary chain. In the manual, it says to take off the gasket to inspect it and then to replace it with a new one. Is this necessary or can I use the old one. If I do have to replace it, where can I order one? Thanks again |

A new gasket is called for, to prevent weeping, and it is available at any H-D or Buell Dealer. Also, check this Thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/142406.html?1133401584 Good Luck! |
