Hey all, my clutch isnt starting to grab untill my lever is all most completely out, its kind of nice for easy/fast shifting but im afraid if it goes out any further I wont have a clutch, how much slack should there be? |

I usually leave a quarter coin worth of space between the clutch perch and the cable ferrule. Sounds like you just need a basic adjustment. Henrik |

Look inside that little bootie in the cable. Mine loosened up once. Made me think that the clutch bearing was going. |

Assuming no one removed the clutch cover and reassembled it without the spring in place...? |

Henrik: that dimmention on cable end free play is 1/16 to 1/8 inch or 1.5 mm to 3 mm |

I took a piece of 1/8" aluminum and cut a slot in it the size of the clutch cable ferrule that fits into the hand clutch lever. I slip the aluminum over the cable and adjust the clutch until the aluminum is a slip fit. |

start by adjusting the cable adjuster in a little bit, but if you do not like the arrangement go to the one in the engine at the adjuster inside the engine you turn the flat blade screw counter clock wise until you feel resistance. at that point you turn the screw back in(clockwise) a quarter turn. a combination of the two will get the "feel" you are looking for |

Thanks for the exact numbers Jim. The way I figure is; a quarter is a hair over 1/16" thick and I prefer a fairly tight adjusted clutch. So if I can slip a quarter between the ferule and the clutch perch, then the adjustment is pretty much where I like it. Henrik |

Remember, more slack (to a point) is better regarding clutch cable adjustments. That slack means that you are totally engaging your clutch, and will not prematurely wear out your throwout bearing with an excessively tight cable. Also, you may want to check your actual clutch adjustment too if it hasn't been done in a while. |

And when you do the clutch adjusting screw make sure you slack off the cable first (make the lever floppy at the bar). If you don't the cable can still be exerting a light pull and create some confusion when you look for the adjusting nut to make that "soft touch". Jack |

crg adjustable levers allow you to custom tailor the release point to suit your grip... allows you to have the maximum slop (1/8")to ensure the clutch fully engages while tailoring the release point to what feels fine to your hand |
