I have the clutch out and the SM calls for a new snap ring that holds the release plate retaining ring. Parts cat lists it as 37909-90. 2000 M2. Problem is, this part from Harley is for big twins and is too small to hold my clutch spring in place. The number in my parts cat is the wrong one. So I need the correct part number for the final outboard snap ring that holds the clutch pack together. It's the one that you use the spring compressor tool to remove and install. Here is where it goes.

Here is what it looks like.
It's the bigger one that I need. The smaller one is the Harley part still in the bag. Obviously not the right part even though the number matches my parts catalog. |

Thanks Court, amazing pics. We have the same manuals, it's SM #22 I need, part#37909-90. Here is my lame-ass pic of Harley part#37909-90 as sold to me yesterday.
Here is what it looks like compared to the part that came off the bike.
Maybe Harley mislabeled the package. I suppose I need to go wrestle with the t-shirt girls behind the parts counter to find the right one. It really sucks going to the dealer and not having a valid part number. |

If you want a stronger clutch basket, you use one out of a BLAST ... |

Do you have what you need to get the right part? Do you mean the part, as numbered in the book, is wrong? If you are having a problem with a bad part number let me know immediately and I'll get you hooked up with the tech folks and get the right one on the way to you pronto. |

Both my '91 XL book and my '95 S2 book show that number. |

I got the service dep't to look it up in their computer. For 2000 Harley is showing 2 different numbers for this part. The tech gave me #37908-90, which was the one I needed. I guess the moral is, bring the old part with you, even if you have a part#. Sure hope I don't need a frame any time soon. Thanks for the help! |
