Bomber: Right you are. I am a big fan of Aerostich but, like racing tires, the Combat Touring Boot is a seriously "purpose built" product. The word is that these things thake tens of thousands to break in....."yeah, but when they do....". Henrik, if memory serves, bought a pair and gave up on them. My Gaerne are going to have to be replaced this year and I'm doing some "what do I REALLY need" introspection. More thoughts on boots later....for now..AVOID LACES and ankle height boots. Court |

Here's something to consider in the boot line: Two years ago @ Sturgis a buddy of mine bought a pair of these for $190, thinking he got a real deal. Since I have been burnt out on the whole Sturgis scene for a while, I now skip that little jaunt & just tool around the Black Hills while the rest of my group take in the sights. I saw the boots that evening and kinda wished I could've had the opportunity to score a pair as well. But the next day we were heading west for the Rockies.. so much for that idea. A couple of days later we were in some local store someplace in Montana, and lo & behold, there were a pair of these boots - that fit - for $160. I bought 'em, they are now broken in, & I love 'em. Riding boot by Chippewa (Sub of Acme, I think, but so are almost every boot co. in the world these days.) Features I like: (in no sig order) 1 Style 2 Quality of construction 3 Velcro closure system - When we stop for that 15 minute butt-break in some little patch of shade we've lucked upon... ten seconds & you're out of them, and on a hot day in the high country, that's better than a BJ!! And just about that long to get back into 'em when it's time to saddle up again. 4 Padded leather patches on the toes for contact w/ shift mech. I recomend them highly - just don't get 'em & Sturgis. Now, if I can include this jpeg... Capt. Pete |

Guys, forget the heavyweight boots. I Switched from HD lace-up zipper boots to Joe Rocket Ballistic waterproofs. I haven't pulled the HD boots on since. The Joe Rockets are easy on/off velcro, water proof, lightweight, armored, and way more comfortable. Go for a sport boot over a heavy leather soled lineman's type boot anyday. You will be much happier. Also, think velcro. big clunky heavyweight boots may be macho, but the sport riding boots are much superior in comfort and utility... for me anyway. Blake |

OK, Another .02 worth. Check out Prexport's. I have the 360WP's, zero break in, fit just right out of the box. They are velcro so they are quick in and out. They also have another model a step up that look even better. Price is around 160 or so at newenough. Check them out! BluzM2 |

Bomber, I was up at the Aerostich factory Saturday morning. They said they have a full inventory of their Touring Combat Boots. The very helpfull person there said that one of their employees used to wear his boots to work everyday to help break them in sooner. So, yes, even Aerostich employees have to break in their boots. Court, or anyone else with a 'stich suit. When I tried on the one-piece Roadcrafter suit and sat on my bike, it felt like the shoulder pads were squeezing into my neck some, and that the shoulders were lifted up some. It seemed like it was the right size otherwise, and the assistant thought it was the right size, so I was thinking this may just be an annoyance that needs to settle in as the suit breaks in. Is this the case? I didn't buy one yet, but at least now have a better idea of how they are to put on and wear and how their sizing works. Do not go into the Aerostich factory unless you plan on spending some money. They have lots and lots of goodies up there, and lots of stuff you "just can live without". Let's just say I used some of the stuff I bought on the ride back home. The High-Viz yellow with Silver ballistics looked interesing, and not near as bright as I thought it would. The high-viz yellow with the black ballistics makes the yellow look brighter. |

Bomber, woo hoo ;D There is something about a well broken in set of boots. On jungles.... I got tired of the bosses yelling at me for wearing them on the flight line. They kept saying something about steel toes. I kept saying I would rather have them crushed a little rather than cut off. I saw the remains of a pair of steel toes that a pallet was dropped on. Not very pretty. Time to find a surplus store.... Being as since I no longer directly work for uncle sugar.. Loki "on the gas till you see god, then brake!" |

After about a ten year absence from riding, I bought a '96 S-1 Lightning a few months back. I decided that I would like to get a nice riding jacket. I am tired of the flapping and lack of ventilation of my regular jackets. I was in a MC shop yesterday that sells the Joe Rocket brand. I am a big guy and normally wear a 2XL shirt and jacket. I tried on a 2XL Joe Rocket nylon jacket and it was TINY! My wife wears a medium or large mens jacket and it didnt even fit her. I then tried a different Joe Rocket style in a 3XL and it was too small also. I couldnt believe it. They are definitely made on the very small side. I like the look of Joe Rocket but it is out of the question. Does any one know of another brand that I could go with that is sized for a big guy? I am going to check the Harley Davidson brand because I know that they have some big customers! Maybe they are sized a little nore on the normal side. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Brian |

Brian: Welcome! Good news, a XXXL rarely stands out amongst our number. Better news, is that there are still a couple leftover XXXL TEAM ELVES shirts from the record setting (actually 4 LAnd Speed Records) trip to Bonneville last year. Anyway....back to your question. One word....A-E-R-O-S-T-I-C-H Go to www.aerostich.com and check out the Darien. I use one in the Hi-Viz yellow and love it. The service is awesome and you know that baby will fit. Ride safe and welcome to a crowd that carries Ensure in their tank bags. Court |

I was looking at the newenough.com site and their Joe Rocket product line. I read their description and their size chart and according to it, a 2XL should fit. The description of the jackets says that they have an adjustable waist tab on them. I think that the waist tabs must have been cinched in. I am going to go back again when I can and take a better look. Thanks. Brian |

I just wanted to put my vote in for Aerostitch.Boomber knows I use the one piece and love it.Its also great for track days in amateur class at Gratten.I also have walked about five miles up very steep MOUNTAINS (sorry) hills in ILLinois State Park.I purchased it over the phone asking for a larger size and the nice lady said don,t worry youll love it after we chatted. It came in and I put it on and wow I though no way???But I found after a short time I loved it.It breathes great and feels great. It takes alot of fatigue out of riddin.I know about fatigue I drive for a living (truck tho).I roll it up and tie it down when not in use.I won,t consider anything else..hmm thinking about the track too?Well just a wisper to me was that If I was to compete that they would accept them...it may be the kevelar hmm.........Vwolf |

Nemo I have considered getting the Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket. From what I know, as long as your moving the air flows thru the all mesh jacket for cooling. I suppose the gray version would be better than black for sitting in the hot sun. A lot of people think it is a kevlar mesh but I don't think so. If you go down you will most likely have to toss the jacket. Your protection is the padded armor fitted in the jacket. Preston I tried one on in a shop and it seemed very light and comfortable. I should have picked it up but I wasn't ready to part with the $129. |

I picked up a Phoenix jacket about 2 weeks ago and have worn it on 2, 300 plus mile rides. And a couple of times to work and back.I don't think it has been over 90,but at those temps it was comfortable.I don't think you can find anything cooler with protection. The whole jacket is polyester. Justin, Sorry, I'm in the middle of packing and staring a new company long distance. You should have an e-mail. I'll get in touch as soon as back on line in OKC. Court, You mean the wind cuts right through the wool. I bet at the right angle you also get a chilly breeze up the sleeve and coming out into your helmet. But then looking good is very important. Had a similar jacket in college I would wear on my 650 Yamaha. When the temp dipped below 40 you were huggin the bike real close and using the mufflers at gas stops to warm up. Back then I could fit in my Dad's old horsehide jacket (you know the one from the 50's that Marlon made famous). Now that's a windbreaker. Zip is all down and it was like a second and third skin. No wind got through. Arvel |

Hows it going, I recently wrecked my bike in a pretty bad accident. I totaled my bike and I don't think the Mrs will be letting get another one anytime soon. I have an XL buell logoed rain (riding) jacket for sale. It is Black with a grey logo and has reflective material built in. It was only worn once on a brief ride, and is in new condition. If anyone is interested I paid $95 for it just 2 months ago. I will sell it for less. Feel free to make offers via email. Thank you, and I am sorry for using your board as a market place. |
