while it would be possible to do it Pup, you would also have to be logging the rpms , load, and throttle position to make proper tuning adjustment to the map. It would be difficult to say the least. These things can be done much much easier on the dyno. Ask Terry, Buelldyno_guy, how many hours it takes to build a map on a dyno under controlled conditions. I'm thinking 4-6, and that's only after a person has learned the ins and outs of the direct-link system. I don't think it's a good idea to try making a mao that way. Even with a pretty close base map a small mistake can toast your motor. |

Thepup: The four wire O2 sensor is still a narrowband, you have to use a wideband O2 sensor/controller. The wideband Commander will do it, but a bit pricey IMO. And I think you need a computer to datalog with it, which makes it difficult to do on the road or track with a motorcycle. I used a Zeitronix wideband controller and a palm Pilot to tune my streetbike with directlink and my racebike with the Factory programmable race ecm. As long as you thoughly research and understand the systems, it's not that difficult, but time consuming. It can be done. I continue to use it on the racebike for changing conditions and different tracks. (Message edited by xb9 on July 25, 2006) |

Xb,the wideband controller logs everything and you can pull it off later. At $500,it does seem a little pricey. |

We Vallejo Performance Services built a short stroke big bore on a XB9 and got 120 at the rear wheel at a red line of 7500-RPM. It was all Rev Perf stuff but using RS 585-V2 cams and not Brian's new RP 610. This bike was commissioned by a retired AFM Road Racer as a track/street bike and if it had the (Henry Duga) Buell Race ECM and a 8200 red line it could have seen 125 HP. On the issue of the software used during the "Exhaust Shoot-out," I had a newer version of the DynoJet software. WinPep 7 allows you to start and stop the pulls automatically so we installed it to standardize the runs. I did not know that it was calibrated to the weight of my drum at H-D Buell of Vallejo and would not be correct on the Silver Eagle drum. In my discussion with the dyno folks at DJ following my return, I did verify that the runs were a little friendly (1.5 to 3 hp), but were OK for comparison between runs. I did call those involved and let then know what happened. ... Terry |
