I tried doing research in the Knowledge Vault but I found it to be conflicting and confusing on what oil is best for the primary. Anyways this is specific to the XB's ( 2004 XB12S), so what would you say is the best oil to use in the primary and why. Thanks everyone. |

I use AMS oil MCV 20w-50 in both holes because I am sold on the specifications. Also: 1. 100% synthetic 2. no friction modifiers 3. wet clutch compatible The stock HD primary oil (formula+ 99851-05) and HD Syn3 are both good as well. |

Run your favorite synthetic motor oil. I don't know what Buell puts in at the factory, but my bike shifted so much better once I put Mobil 1 15w50 in there. Have fun and try what you like, it's only a one quart expense. |

Ditto what Davo said. I am running Amsoil 20w-50 for both applications. The difference that the Amsoil made in the primary was striking. Way smoother! |

Screamin Eagle Synthetic 3 all around. Bike seems to run a lot cooler and you can go a bit longer between fluid changes if you'd like. 9$ a bottle, stuff is like liquid gold. |

Screamin Eagle Synthetic 3 The problem with this oil is that we know virtually nothing about it save what HD deigns to tell us. I use Red Line in both holes. |

80w90 Gear oil works great. 11,000 on my bike and trans. works great. I change oil every 1,500 miles and it is clean. |

Glad I have a warranty cause I have syn 3 in the primary right now. I dont think HD is going to put something in there that isnt up to the task. |

i run syn3 in the motor and had it in the primary. just changed that to formula plus this morning. not sure i really liked the syn3 in it. guess i will see if anything changes. the thing i noticed was that i never really had a problem with missed shifts or things like that until i started running the syn3. i had plenty of miles on it with the regular primary lube so i cant believe i just forgot how to shift suddenly about the same time i changed lubes. i'm going to see what happens with the formula plus in there. not like it can hurt. |

Anyone using Royal Purple 85/95? I saw it yesterday but it has limited slip additives and it made me wonder if this was good for the clutch? |

I had seen this posted previously at BadWeb, but I wanted to confirm it for myself. I went to Mobil1.com, e-mailed Mobil, and asked them what lubricant they recommend for Buell primaries. Their response: "Mobil1 MX4T 10W40 motorcycle motor oil [synthetic] is the recommended and appropriate product." I think I'm gonna try that at my next change. |
