Just curious what some folks have done to get big horse power. I'm not talking race kit or pipes. Has anyone put Big Bore kits or major engine modes and what was the results. Post up, I'm curious how many horses some of you folks have got to and how ya did it. |

check the "show your power" thread in the KV for my "little" 9's sheet. At that time it fell .4 HP short of 100. Direct Link, Micron, or Drummer pipe, and open airbox w/K&N is getting a bunch os 12's over 100hp |

Our racer has an XB12X motor that was on the dyno at 103rwhp and 106 ft lbs torque. It is pretty stock except: +0020" bore with Wiseco 12:1 pistons Heads flowed by Hal's (stock valve sizes) Jims Roller rockers stock Ulysses cams Hot Performance Aero Corse exhaust Rapibike ECM Ultimate Airbox kit with K&N filter Hal's Ram Air kit Belt drive Primary kit. Although it is a race bike the power comers in right from tickover upwards, so would be suitable for road use. Only problem would be the high compression ratio needs a higher octane than most pump fuel (we use Sunoco 109 octane race unleaded). |

Yes, but the dyno was being a bit optimistic for some reason. No stock 12 motored bike will put out 100rwhp in stock form. Most will be between 85-90rwhp. |

Terry (Buelldynoguy) got over 100hp on a stock 12 with Micron/K&N/American Sport Bike open airbox kit, and Directlink remapping. Almost 92HP on a 9 same bolt on mods... |

Hmm, I have the race ECM, FILTER and RACE muffler from Buell and got 88 Rear Wheel HP. |

I haven't dyno'd my racebike yet, but I'm guessing somewhere around 110-115 HP, based on how it kept up with Josh Guyers XB at Putnam earlier this year. (He said his put out 112 on the dyno, and my gearing was quite a bit off - he wasn't pulling me much on the straight.) My bike: (All Revolution Performance machine work & design) 3.125" short stroke X 3.875" bore, 1208cc Stage III heads (SS valves) 585V2 Cams w/adjustable pushrods & roller rockers. 12:1 Darkhorse crank Aluminum clutch basket and Drive Gear 50mm custom ported Intake manifold and throttlebody (not forced air). Factory programmable race ECM Micron Exhaust 110 Octane Citgo race fuell Currently RL set @ 7500 RPM It's streetable (I put on 500 miles breakin/tuning on the street), idles real nice, sounds nastier than all H#ll. It was OK on the street with 100 octane unleaded race fuell while I was tuning/breaking in it also. (Message edited by xb9 on July 24, 2006) |

I have right at 100 with a Micron pipe, race ecm remapped with DL and a K+N air filter. I haven't dynoed it again since I got it broke in. Might be a little more now. Sure runs good. |

My bike was showing pretty impressive numbers...until Direct Link came out. I have to wonder what might be "hidden" in my bike now. I know it's pretty close on A:F, but I figure there are a few more horsies I might be able to liberate if I was to go to Direct-Link, but it'll be pricey because my motor is not a "standard" configuration. |

Just curious... if everyone is saying that the stock pipe Buell had incorrect readings, and that it wasn't really putting out over 100hp... what good is the rest of the test? The stock numbers were wrong but all the other numbers/runs were correct and fine? That doesn't make much sense. |

No, the curves are what you look at since the numbers can vary widely from dyno to dyno. The dyno at silver eagle was apparently optimistic compared to most, and we now know there was a software offset/calibration problem with the latest version of the operating software they had. An experienced operator can manipulate the dyno readings of any dyno up or down by several horse- power, or foot pounds of torque, by pushing a very few buttons. There are some unscrupulous operators out there, be very cautious when you see numbers that just don't add up. Terry himself didn't like the numbers he saw so he investigated the cause of them. When reading dyno charts ask to see the air:fuel curves to go with the hp and torque curves. Look at the a:f to see if there are any peaks or valleys in it. You'll probably see valleys in the hp and torque curves right where the a:f goes off. If not you're seeing the limits of the motor, cams, heads, or of the components attached like the pipe or airbox |

So, if a bike is putting out 100 at the rear what is it doing at the crank? In other words, what percentage is lost in the power transfer? |

I'm not Dave, but I've heard both (Micron on my bike) The Micron has a little bit more throaty sound than the Race can at idle, and quite a bit louder on the gas. The Micron has a bit of decel pop, but mine could be worse because of the way my bike is running. My bike needs regular service maintenance, so that may be part of the reason. The thing I like about the Micron is the @10 h.p. with just a bolt on. |

[Edit: to reiterate what Diablobrian said...] Earwig, it was stated earlier (in the exhaust shootout thread) that this dyno was "optimistic", I believe due to a minor calibration or software issue. This means ALL the numbers are somewhat high, but they still provide good comparisons. I.E.- you look at what the stock exhaust RWHP measured, you look at the XXX exhaust/ECM/airbox curve and see that it's 10 RWHP higher. The bike may not be really producing 110 RWHP, but it is producing 10 RWHP more than it did with the stock exhaust. That part of the comparison is accurate. Several knowledgeable people have repeatedly stated here at Badweb that it's not a good practice to compare RWHP numbers between different dynomometers due to several issues (calibration, dyno operator, etc.) It IS safe to compare numbers taken on the same dyno. Absolute horsepower numbers are questionable; comparisons between horsepower numbers taken on the same dyno are valid. (Message edited by whodom on July 25, 2006) |

As Joe says, the Micron is a more raspy(is that really a word?) sound It kind of reminds me of the sound of the tube frame Buell race kit. Still not loud enough for my tastes but I'll take the power! |

Actually it is only really safe to compare numbers from the same dyno taken with the same temperature and atmospheric conditions. The idea is that air density and even (to a lesser extent) traction vary with changes to the environmental conditions. You can compare relative differences, but as I said before the thing you really want to see is the smoothness of the curves. especially in the rpm range you find yourself using the most! I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion. Also Thanks Whodom. Kurosawa, I think Shazam does. You can usually find him hanging in the KCmob board. |

If i can find some oil cooler lines by then. I chafed through one on my tulsa trip and am just now getting around to replacing it...I thought I had spares, but last night I found the opposite to be true. the little 90 degree fitting broke too. Timing is everything! I'll call you tomorrow if I get really desperate. you might check if you have these in stock and prepare to next day air them when I call. |
