This may have been asked before, if so sorry. But does anyone know if you can purchase the rubber "X" tank pad seperately and how much and wait is there? I really like the looks of it. Thanks for any help. |

You can't buy one. The only way is if you buy a whole new cover or find someone that has removed one and for sale. (Message edited by bads1 on July 23, 2006) |

I bought one from Al at American Sport Bike. He had a damaged City-x air box. You may be able to find someone that removed theirs that's willing to give, or sell it to you. I recommend, if you do get one, using a high strength automotive trip adhesive. Use tape for alignment marks, and to keep the adhesive off of the places you don't want it. When you're ready it's pretty much a one shot deal. Here are pics of my bike with the X on the airbox cover.
As of homecoming you could not purchase any other non-city cross color airbox covers with the x installed. The factory has a heat and pressure fixture for installing the X. The adhesive they use is volatile. That is the reason that Abe gave us for the X not being available for sale as an individual part. |

Dammit, I want one of those bad. I like to sit on the tank now and then and that looks awesome. I'll keep looking. |

If you're sitting up there you wouldn't want you pants to hang on the rubber on the way up, or down. That could end very very badly. It works beautifully for my tank bag. I wouldn't have one except for the fact I always have to have my tank bag with me to carry my folding cane. A backpack covers the vents on the back of my jacket, so that was out. It took a while to hunt one down. |
