Matt, It's a good thing you reinforced that rear fender. Sam, Here is that link to the place I told you about to get connectors for our bikes: http://www.deutschconnector.com/ |

Super Troopers Stash! I went to work at the Credit Union one day with that stash to be funny. Yes, the 06 belt is officially trashed after only 5,000 miles! I felt it go yesterday as I was leaving work. It's missing about a 2 inch area worth of teeth now. I'm calling Topeka and Gails today to see if they will replace it for me. Didn't they say the 06 belt is the strogest and most rugged belt yet? Did I hear something about it lasting the life of the bike? |

I believe the service life of the drive belt is inversely proportional to the number of wheelies per mile (WPM). Lower your WPM and you'll get a longer lasting belt.

That sounds like what my girlfriend had to say. Duff rides more wheelies than I do, and he has had the stock 03 belt on for 20,000 miles! How come I've been through two supposedly stronger belts in 12,500 miles? Hell, I could barely ride a wheely for the first 5,000 miles! |

I put in a call to Topeka HD, and they are seeing if they can do anything for me. He said it should take a couple days. Luckily, I am still in my 2 year factory warranty by a couple days, so that should help me out a little bit. We'll see what happens. I was told a guy named Saintly switched to a chain for less than the price of a new belt, so if I can't get this done for free through the warranty the belt is gone! I pm'd Saintly to get the scoop. I'll let you guys know what he had to say when I hear back from him. (Message edited by Olinxb12r on July 19, 2006) |

Maybe it's your technique. I have 8k on my '06 belt with no problems. Although I know other Uly owners have broken belts under normal riding conditions. |

Fellas, Got a question for you. Monday I took my bike to a local gathering and I noticed my speedometer was bouncing all over at idle and bouncing and inaccurate at speed. At startup all the gauges swept and appear to be operating. Upon reviewing the service manual I checked out all the components associated with the speedometer and found this...
It appears my front sprocket is leaking at the connection to the drive shaft. Everything under the sprocket was pretty oily and I cleaned it up. Do you guys think this is corralated? Tim-didn't you have some issues with your speedometer? I thought I remember you having a speed sensor go out. At first, I thought this oily mess was affecting one of the connectors. According to the manual, one of these wires near this is speedometer related. My second guess is the speed sensor inside the transmission is going out or dirty. Drake, See you let that dirty little white motorcycle in your garage leaking oil all over the place and then your bike get's pissy and starts doing it too! Sounds like you are on the right track with the sensor. I would guess that connector is sealed pretty well considering it's location, but it wouldn't hurt to pull it apart and use some spray contact cleaner on it. Does the oil look like it's built up over time, or is it pretty fresh looking. Fresh means a trip to the dealer for some warranty work on that seal. :-( |

I agree. It sounds to me like the two problems are just coincidental. I think I would inspect the wire from the speedo to the sensor to be sure that there is no breakage or momentary shorting. |

Topeka HD is Awesome! They weren't able to put the belt under the manufacturer warranty because it just ran out, but they are going to help me anyway. Basically I've got to pay a $50 deductible against my extended warranty and then they will cover the rest for me. So I won't be switching to a chain drive until the next belt breaks. One problem. They aren't going to help me out unless I take the bike down to Topeka for them to put the belt on. So does anyone want to take a trip to Topeka with me? I'll pay gass for your truck and pick up lunch/dinner or whatever. They ordered the belt today, and they are booked until August 1st, so it won't be for a couple weeks. Let me know. Thanks guys! |

They can't throw on a belt for another 2 weeks??? I wouldn't think it would take 15 minutes with everything. |

If the tech is a smoker, it may take longer because of smoke breaks. |

Part of that is ordering the belt and getting it in, but he seemed to think it would be an hour or so for them to squeeze the bike in and get the belt on. I said damn, it only takes me about 20 minutes to do it. |

Drake, I had a speed sensor go out. It was the old style that was only on the 03's. What happened was the speed just died completely and the OD didn't track any mileage. If your speedometer is jumping around and your OD is still tracking mileage then it maybe something else like a loose connection or bad connection. |

Also the ride for kids is Grizwalds baby and would be nice if as many of us as possible could show up for this charity ride.....We can all meet in the am and roll in together...It's not a long ride and has police support, so there will be no stops once it starts rolling... |
