I think it was on these pages where I saw a cool bracket attachment 'behind' the "beak" fender, but I can't for the life of me re-find it! I've also seen other methods, but this one seems very cool! Anyone else seen it or have other suggestions? I've got the fog lamps and will be doing the simul-dual headlights mod soon. Thanks for any help! |

Leo, Well, there are those here who talk about problems w/ super-heated plastics melting and such, but not of any electrical probs that I've seen. Really, the bike's supposed to do better w/ accessories anyway, so I don't see a problem. I AM considering running dedicated supply wires tho to make sure twice normal current is running up different legs. My plan to use the high-beam switch to turn-on the fog lamps. As for the mounting bracket, I've gone ahead and cut one from reasonably thick steel sheet and will be cutting holes, priming, and painting it in the next few days. I'll post pics if I remember to take some. |

When you paint it make sure your not standing UPwind of your bike. Don't ask me how I got black wrinkle paint overspray all over my WHITE bike. heh I can wash it all day n it still looks dirty when I'm done. Post some pics when you're done I've been wanting more light for a while now. |

Ulyboy, Thanks for your reply. As soon as you can, post the pictures. I did a bracket too, but I used a thick stainless steel sheet and it became heavy. If I were you, I'd try something lighter, like aluminium alloy. I'm back to work. See ya. |

Asdf - Thanks for the link, dude! Perfect - the link eventually led me back to the "ulytility.com" site and the pictures of the L-bracket I'd remembered seeing back when. I'm attempting to make a similar bracket using the same basic design. Leo - I'll post pics when I can. Also, when you say the ss stuff "...became heavy.", what happened? Did it sag, or what? |

Ulyboy, No it didn't sag. Just the bracket - the final piece - weights too much, in my opinion. I think lighter is better, for not interfere on handling. |

Okay, this is before (perfectly attractive)...
...And this is after...
Larger frontal look, seen better night or day, and works well to illuminate together w/ the stock headlights!
Above is the bracket I cut after making a cardboard template. I don't know what gauge thickness it is, but it was thicker than the other pieces OSH had in stock. I cut it w/ a Dremel tool, drilled the holes (note the extra hole in the center - helps w/ stability), primed and spray-painted to satin black finish. Some support for the lights is coming from the fork tubes the lights are contacting statically. Because of this, there is hardly any shaking/stressing of the bracket at engine idle. Time will tell if the lights start wearing the fork tubes, I guess, but there is no sign initially. Good luck on YOUR projects, guys! - Mike (Message edited by UlyBoy on August 08, 2006) |

ran 29 hours one day with both high and low beams engaged ( 1350 miles), a long day. this setup here is really freakin bright:

UPDATE: My earlier posts show the bracket made w/ bent sheet metal as thick as I could find. It has just failed after only 8K miles. The vibration simply cracked the metal at the bend where the lights attached. Fix: New bracket is made from angle-iron so the bend is fortified and not a weak spot. Almost exact same look, but now the bracket is more of a fork brace! There is no vibration on the new bracket. Only the signal lights do their 'dance' at the idle now! Should last for a long, long time! Note: The bracket I made took a couple of days to cut and file to my liking and, though similar to the "ulytility" bracket, is at least twice the thickness..., plus >> I made it myself! |
