Best of luck to all you SPLASHers!!! Wish I could be there for all the fun. Guess I'll just have to set my sights on the 10th anniversary ride. Have a good time and put a wheel in the air for me. And post up some pics so I can see your ugly faces again. |

I read that you are all riding on Friday but is there also a ride on Saturday? When and where? |

Splash Friday update: 12 riders today. Lonnie left us at mile 85 after coffee to go start the barbecue. We were smokin the roads real good. Stopped just after Tillamook to pee, then took the road from Beaver to Carlton. About 5 miles past the dirt section Don Scott went down on Loraine's Beemer Thumper. A pickup came along and offered to take Don to the hospital in McMinnville. He was getting xrayed for probable broken left clavicle (again). He came in too hot on a right hand curve, started to slid, then high-sided, landing on his left shoulder primarily. Helmet trashed. Slid marks on his jacket. Pretty good crash. Bike was ridable. I rode home to get my pickup to get Don and Bike back to Woodland, but arrived to find Wifey had taken pickup to work (it must have had more gas than her car). So just waiting for her to come home and then will get to Don. |

Harv here. Eric, Jimmy, Marc, John and I got back OK. We went through Port Townsend and took the Whitbey Island Ferry. That route turned out really well. We stopped for lunch at a great little pub with great fish and chips and fresh beer. We then drove straight on to the ferry which left minutes later, caught Chukanut Drive on the way to the border. I bought some perfume for my wife (Border Raid Insurance) and all is well. That had to be the best SPLASH for pure riding but we missed out on some of the faces we usually see. Galen, Bob refused to hug us for you and I was kinda hurt. Bob was kind of a meanie this trip as he wouldn't let me beat him at TT Superbike racing on the video game in his room. Damn he's good. Shotgun, Thanks for leading us on some great riding on Friday. We have to do that again next year. Tough luck for Don but we know he'll be back riding as soon as he's ready. Thanks again Loni and Chris for the BBQs at the lake. Thanks to Marc, Branden, Peter and others for the help fixing my bike. The repairs held and no further problems were encountered. Get ready for Border Raid and if you have any input as to where you want to ride and stay we should start working on the arrangements pretty soon. Thinking very much about the dark side. Harv |

Harv, BOB had spefic instructions to hug the heck out of all you Northern Lights for me! He is indeed a Magnificent Basturd! So sad to sit at home... Got the freakin Betty back together and then discovered that my Batterie had died during the interim since BordeRaid '05. $ keept me from just replacing it and heading out. Unemployment sucks to a very high degree indeed. Should be on the road by tomorrow, and the penneys are being collected for the trip to your homeland on laborday. Any who I will be the guy makeing up for lost time. XOXXOX sooner, Galen |

Harv pretty much covered what I wanted to say, but I really want emphasize that we realize it takes a lot of time to organize this ride, by various parties, and we really do appreciate the efforts that have been made. So to everyone involved, thank you very much! John |

Hey all you SPLASHoids! We had a great ride on Saturday. I haven't ridden that loop in a long while and it was good to have the whole group along for most of the ride. I really enjoyed being able to ride in back, in the middle, and in front, pretty much with everyone, very cool! Shotgun> Thanks for organizing the Friday ride and getting Don's bike taken care of. We'll have to finish that ride the way it was planned some other time, and include the 12 awesome miles of twisties between Mist & Clatskanie. Thanks also for the update on Friday, we were wondering what happened to you and were starting to get worried about the possibilities... got us thinking about putting together a contact list with addresses and phone numbers for next time - probably a good idea. Don - Speedy recovery! Bob, Mike, et al. You got me thinking about Laguna Seca and also the ride you guys do in April. I'm interested in doing at least one of those next year so let's keep in touch for that. CaptLusk - very interesting lunch discussion - missed you at the barbecue. looking forward to future discussions! Enjoy the summer everyone and if you find yourselves in central Oregon come and stay and ride with us! We have plenty of room and guided tours of great twisty roads provided. Great to see you all! Hi gang! Well you all said it so well. We really did have an awesome weekend at SPLASH. In my opinion, the extra ride day on Friday and Shotgun’s route should stay as part of the regular curriculum. It just makes a good thing even better. Thanks Shotgun for setting that up. Sorry you lost most of your social time retrieving bent bike. Extra special thanks to Chris and Loni for all that you do to make SPLASH the best motorcycle weekend of the year. Sad to report that after 4 days of ripping up Washington and Oregons’ finest and possibly most dangerous roads, my RC51 is down due to STUPIDITY! If you could all join in and shout….’YOU STUPID IDIOT….WHAT WHERE YOU THINKING!’ and then when we meet again, a STERN SLAP UPSIDE THE HEAD should follow. I’m getting ready to ride to my chiropractors for a little frame and alignment work when one of the sub contractors working on my house comes up and asks if he can take it for a short spin down the alley. Says he used to ride all the time but didn’t currently have a bike. Trusting of others as I tend to be, I say sure. This is the damage caused within 12’ of pulling out of my driveway. Buddy launches my RC in an almost instant wheelie, panics and pins it into my neighbor new cedar fence. Had he not hit the corner post straight on, he would have literally landed on the neighbor enjoying a tea on her deck or landed on a pile of concrete and other landscape debris three feet below the driveway. Add insult to injury – NO COLLISION coverage. I’ve always maintained that I probably wouldn’t survive a crash that would destroy my bike so why have coverage to repair it anyway. The other reason is the extremely high cost of insurance in BC leaves me choosing between theft or collision. It’s like stepping up to the roulette table and picking a color. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. Today I’m a LOOSER!
Not so fun Jimmy |

Hey everyone, Had a incredible time!! Many thanks to all who organized the event, the ride, and too Chris and Lonni for another great BBQ!! The ride was amazing and with the addition Debbie's circus antics "The flying Gusenhovens"very entertaining. whew, I dont know how you pulled that off! Bob, Branden And I went down to PIR to demo some new Triumphs but didnt get a chance because of time constraints. the first demos weren't available til 3:00pm. We saw Ty race, One of Mikes friends, He placed 4th Way to go Ty! Man those guys were flyin! Watched another race of some classic bikes A Ducati, some Nortons,A couple of two stroke triples.A few blown motors and oil all over the track made me a little leary of a parade lap so we opted to blaze home early Don best of wishes for a speedy recovery!! Great to see everyone!! Later Duane |

Wow, that sucks Jimmy. I have seen exactly what you described happen to many time to tell ya about. I remember the first one like it was yesterday. I just got my KX80 and my older sisters's guy friend comes over. He didnt get far before he was over the back and on the ground, he drug himself through the gravel in our driveway, and out onto the pavement before hitting a tree. Was horrified and laughing at the same time. So he is gonna pay for it I hope? I mean, you gotta be a huge azz to wreck someones bike then not at least offer to pay for repairs. |

I would like to thank everyone for all the help and support .you guys are truly great friends, doctor says things should heal up fine without casting the injury or surgery. But if things don't go well, surgery is an option in the future. Sorry to be the dampening factor on this weekend. The card you all signed (that Eva made) was very thoughtful and I was deeply touched. Thanks again for being there! Hugs and kisses Don. ~~~~~~~~~ Wifey, (that'd be me, Lo) also says thanks to everyone for your support. Those that hung around at the hospital since I couldn't be there, really made it that much easier to deal. Eva was a little upset but having the people at the BBQ helped keep her spirits up. Thanks to Chris and Loni for another great ho-down BBQ, it's always appreciated. I hope your ummm, B-Fund jar was stuffed full! Shotgun... you're the best bike retriever I know! Your dedication to seeing the beemer back safe definitely deserves some big accolades! Thanks so much for sacrificing your time, energy and gas. We owe you big time!!!!! Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy...! Or should I call you Doctor?? Looks like that guy will have to fix up your bike, which btw looks way worse than the asphalt blasting mine took. I'm sorry about that little oops, I know all about lending out bikes... looks like we've all learned a lesson here. But the important thing is that you weren't hurt, or your poor tea-sipping neighbour! (Was the guy injured? Wearing gear?) I'm so glad Don will be okay, it could have been a totally different situation I don't even want to think about. You know... I never even took a photo of my bent bike. It's at the dealership now to be assessed, we haven't heard back yet but I'm hoping it's gonna be ok. Again, thanks to everyone for taking good care of Don and for the use of the cell phone to keep in touch. You are all truly the best friends we could have!!! Big hugs! PS. Galen, I don't know what the other guys are talking about, but I got some good hugs from Bob... maybe there was one in there from you You take care!!! Well, as I mentioned earlier, I never took pix of my bent beemer. But with today's technology Don's xrays were put on CD and I was able to extrapolate an image for ya... So for those that are a bit squeemish you may wish to avoid viewing this image of Don Splat and his shattered clavical (collarbone)...
What you can't see is that there is a sheath-like covering over the bones and the Doc seems to think that it will pull together and somehow heal. Best of luck with that, huh? I'm just amazed the little shards of bone didn't sever any of those important arteries (well... they are all important, aren't they?!)

Thanks all for another fabulous SPLASH weekend. I had a great time. Seem to have graduated from the front of the B class to the back of the A's. ALthough, looking at the the pics above maybe I don't want to be there. And just got the news from Jimmy. Always looking for the silver lining: now I don't have to feel guilty for not being there as a riding partner with Jimmy this weekend as I'll be taking the new honey for a ride down the Olympic Penisula to repris that tasty lunch at the Brew Pub at Port Renfrew. And I'll have to point out to Jimmy that carbon fibre is notoriously rigid. If he'd left the stock snorkel on, instead of that Bambi-vacuum, I'm sure the plastic would have absorbed the impact just like a car bumper. (Message edited by Sportyeric on July 20, 2006) |

Lo, Don, OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heal well and quickly. None of us did anything that you two wouldn't have done for us. I just wish I had thought about retrieving the bike sooner so the others could have gotten on with their Splash Friday ride quicker. I enjoyed the Friday and Saturday rides. Question: how or what is it that makes this very informal group of n'er-do-wells "click" so well? What kind of dynamic throws people of divergent backgrounds, careers, ages, locations, etc together so well and only once or twice a year? And next year, it's 10 years! Absofrigginlutely Amazing. Thank you all. |

Don Good to see you typing again. One hand or two? We where really hoping that you would have been discharged and returned to the Lakeside for a little social before turning in for the night. Well it was better safe than sorry and the silver lining in your stay at the McMinnville Hospital was that HOT nurse that SportyEric was drooling over. LOL. Get well soon. Lo Thanks for posting the Xray. Brings back that queasy feeling from the first time I saw them. It’s amazing what a human body can do to repair itself. When the attending doctor said that the bones would find a way to heal back together I was quite surprised. Thought surgery was a given with a bone displacement like that. Much better to have not needed surgery though, and Don can show off his NEW lumps at the next SPLASH! Give Eva a big high five. She deserves it. It must have been very difficult for her to know that Dad was in the hospital and not being able to visit him. Re: Dr. FunJimmy. Just doesn’t sound right, maybe FunJimmy MD. Watch for it on FOX, Thursday nights, 8:00 PST. Shotgun Answer: Motorcycles. Living on the edge. Beer. Hot chicks! Not necessarily in that order. RC51 damage update. Quote for Genuine Honda replacement parts and the carbon snorkel & carbon fender have exceeded $3200.00 Canadian. That’s $2800.00 US and represents parts only. Yikes! Cheers FunJimmy |

Hey all, We are currently at Matt Wood Manor in Sacramento. Tomorrow we leave for Laguna about 3.5 hours down the road for what has to be the best race venue in the US and Canada. That said, I don't think it comes close to the Riding, fun and friendship that SPLASH offer's. It is very rare to have such a large group still together after all these years still having fun and taking care of one another. We had a Blast!! Jimmy, Da Da Da Da ang Dog!! Hope the guy steps up and takes care of the bike. Don!! All this happend and I didn't even get to see you. Heal Up and Hair over soooon!! Maybe Lo can do Border Raid if the Beemer gets done in time. Well the good news is that FunJimmy M.D. is right, and Don should mend up just fine. Eventually. Friggin' shoulders are notoriously slo to stop hurting. Damn I wish I was there... But Betty is back and as noisy as ever! been practice putting for a week now and will have to have twice the fun on BordeRaid to make up for the negative SPLASH input. The stupid Buell is running like a banshee, strong as an ox and acting like nothing was ever wrong! sooner, Galen |

Great time @ Splash this year. The extra ride Friday was a nice addition. Thanks to Shotgun for plotting that one out. Don, glad to hear you're mending well. It's always one of the great things about a group ride, especially w/friends such as these, and that's having people to help you out. Everyone's there for each other. Sorry I missed the card, Don, but here's to your speedy(!) recovery. Saturday's pace was great. Mike kept it going on a fast, but not breakneck, speed. It was somewhat disconcerting to have Debbie in my rear-views for a lot of the ride since I know I wasn't going "that" fast The "no stop at Cougar" was a great decision and should be a requirement from now on. The weather was perfect. Mike, sorry about the tix. It pisses me off these newbies don't respect their elders. I hope your attorney kicks his ass. On to Border Raid!! Cheers, Eric |
