Anybody out there tried this guard? www.touratech-usa.com/shop/usa.lasso?SubCat=Ulysses I installed one Saturday PM, got up early this morning for a zip around some of my favorite roads (Sunday early AM kitchen pass). Didn't get to the end of the block. Terrible vibes in the front end. Couldn't read the gages, and mirrors were totally useless. Removed forward engine guard but kept the lower and oil filter guard installed. ALL vibes returned to normal. Everything was torqued using a quality torque wrench to service manual spec's. This thing uses the front tie bar bolts as upper mounts and only thing I can come up with is all engine vibrations are being transmitted to front end. You're the first I've heard of that has one of those. They look cool. I can see your point on how the mounting points would amplify the exhaust vibrations [almost] directly to the frame. This probably isn't any help but double check any directions or box contents to make sure there aren't any rubber mounts / gromets that came with it. If not, you're probably stuck with sending it back or modifying the mount points. It seems like most of the vibes would come from the top clutch side mounting point because that's the direct path to the frame. The other top mount is somewhat isolated from the frame by the tie rods rubber mounts. I wonder if you could try it with that point not mounted, and if it gets rid of the vibes you could cut that mounting point off. The other thing you may want to check is that your exhaust mounts are tight so you don't have any excess vibration. | ||

It bolts to both sides of one of the engine mounting links. From what it looks like it's taking that link and making it a solid connection. Bad design. | ||

Looks like all their stuff impedes air flow for cooling. Just because somebody makes something doesn't make it better or even worthwhile. I've always been a fan of tubular style engine guards because they save expensive engine side cases but this perforated thing blocks air which this hot running engine craves for cooling. | ||

I remember we had a discussion about this part possibly transmitting vibes when it first came out. That was before anybody had one or could get one. Sorry to hear it's true. | ||

Do not buy it! I installed the skid plate (WORKS GREAT) and front engine guard.....Loaded my bike for a trip to N.GA Vibrated like Hell ... could not see crap for about 5 min...I was getting ready to turn around and go home when all smoothed out..........It smoothed out because the metal broke at the tabs of the front engine guard........I am pissed that a company as popular as Tourtech did not bother to R&D! | ||

Lowflyer: I'm a noob to Buell's and this forum but learning quickly. Wish I would have seen the previous discussion. I traveled 210 days last year without internet access so chances are I would have missed it anyway. Bosh: The fit and finish is excellent and it does look great installed in the garage. To bad it has turned out to be a POS...so far. Electraglider_1997: Not worried about heat. Trying to set the ride up for a run to Prudhoe Bay leaving FLA in mid/late May 07. Worried about the rocks on exposed oil filter and lines. 1st trip up so any advice is welcome. Going to try to enlarge the holes for the top mount bolts and install bushings longer in length than guard to allow it to be torqued but still move up and down with the vibes of the engine. If that is unsuccessful then will try not installing the bolts one at a time top first. Will keep you posted and get some pictures. | ||

Thanks Bob, I have been keeping an eye on the MTF to see if the dates will align with my ride. If not at least there should be others on the road around the same time. Wasn't planning on doing the Hyder Seek this year mostly because I wanted to see more of the north country. It will mostly likely be 8-10 years before I can go that far north again with my daughter in high school then college....I hope. I see you and Jeremy are in the CF1000 this year.
