My friend and I both have 2006 XB12Rs. He has the race muffler and race ecm while I have just the race kit muffler at the moment (I'm waiting for a race ecm). I notice that (apart from not running as smoothly) my bike has much more deceleration popping than my friend's bike. Why is this? I read somewhere that it could be caused by a lean condition but that doesn't seem right - surely a rich condition (unburned fuel in the muffler) should cause popping? |

nope it's an indication of a lean condition. It is counter-intuitive, but it's that way it is. |

Thanks but can anyone explain why a lean condition would cause popping? |

because the extra air goes out somewhere all at once...POP...my jardine does it too and i have the ecm but i'm waiting for the filter |

Ok, It is usually a problem with the ECM's map for low throttle positions at higher rpms, as evidenced by Terry's (Buelldyno_guy) map adjustments clearing up the problem, or...the higher temperatures caused by the lean condition igniting unburned fuel in the pipe with the throttle closed, or...air leaking into the exhaust allowing the excess fuel to ignite there . There are other theories too. which one is true depends on who you ask, and the specifics of your situation. If there are no air leaks in your exhaust piping, and there probably aren't, I'd bet Your bike is running lean, and a little ECM tweaking would fix it right up. |
