A few things. The S1W has the bigger "manta" style tank, thunderstorm top-end, 2.5 inch collector on the header, and um... it says S1W on the tail. I'm sure there are a couple other things, but they escape me at the moment. Also, the S1W came in colors other than white. |

S-1W didn't come with passenger pegs and it came with a Buell pro-series seat. |

Wha'??? Buell pro series seat! That's a new one... I think the facts need to be checked with that. Maybe a better question for the old timers is "Could the S1W be had in twin tail form?" DAve |

my s1w regular seat(not twintail) has the brackets for passenger pegs and a parted out siw that i purchased many parts from came with a twintail seat, twintail body and the extender piece with tail lamp. the twintail seat was the usual crappy one, my other one got to me with a force seat. have fun, tim |

Here's a close up to show it is not the standard S1 seat.
No S1W (or S1 for that matter) came from the factory with the twintail tail section and seat, but the parts were available through your local (or not-so-local), friendly (or not-so-friendly) dealer. BTW, the pictures above clearly show the lack of passenger pegs and the rubber/plastic covers that were put over the passenger peg mounting tabs. Rocket's bike apparently came with them though. This may be something different for Europe as any S1W of colors other than white bodywork and white frame were known as a 'Lightning Strike' in Europe. 1313 |

All white S1W decal, on both flyscreen and tail section (the Buell Lettering and checkered flag graphics are not stock - best pic I had...).
In black and white:
Rocket, New paint is looking GOOD! Can't wait to see the rest of the bikes makeover. On a somewhat unrelated note, I sure wish I had clearer pics of the S1 Black Lightning graphics. 1313 (Message edited by 1313 on July 16, 2006) |

I guess I should have clarified myself a little better. Here's the one and ONLY 1998 Buell S1 Black Lightning.
About the only decent picture of it I have.
Kinda fuzzy from the back (thanks to the old timey film camera technology), but I believe that is the window to Erik's office in the background.
Tank decals from the Molten Orange bikes.
Fuzzy front end picture.
It's hard to tell, but I can tell you for sure that the flyscreen and tail section graphics on this S1B definitely stated 'S1 BLACK Lightning' in the same exact style as the 'S1 WHITE Lightning' graphics, and they were printed in white instead of the blue for the white lightning. This bike was built for Jerry Wilke when he was the prez of Buell. I'm assuming that he still has the bike. I know if I had that bike it would stay in my possession as long as my S2 will - until my cold, dead hands are pried off of it. Not taking anything away from your Black S1W, errr... Lightning Strike, Rocket, as I can't wait to see overall pics of the reincarnation. 1313 |
