Ten minutes? Something is amiss with your bike. I'd wager that ten minutes without a fan would have the engine cooled down well below the shutoff temperature for the fan. sounds to me like your temperature sensor is way out of calibration. I doubt it. We just have hot summers. 10 minutes is probably an exaggeration - I never measured it - but it sure feels that long. Certainly, the silence is a blessed relief when it finally stops. |

Where are you guys getting that right side scoop from? It appears to look just like the stock scoop on the left side. Even down to the little lip/suround on the edge of opening. I think I would like to try one on my Uly as my fan runs continually during rides down here in Southwest Indiana. David |

I don't believe they are available from any BadWeb sponsors in black plastic that looks like the stock left one. Some of the sponsors have carbon fiber and fiberglass ones available. I wanted one to match the stock, also. |

Thats what I thought. The scoop from American Sport Bike is carbon. That scoop in the pics looks just like a factory scoop. Anyone? What brand or source is the scoop in pics. David |

Len, On multiple occasions, I've seen first hand a Buell XB come off the race track in Texas Summertime heat and the fan shuts off in no more than a minute or two. If your fan is staying even 8 minute minutes, then something is probably amiss with your bike. Time it and see what it actually is. Exaggeration is unhelpful. |

Time it and see what it actually is. It's winter now in the southern hemisphere but next summer I'll time it. |

I have timed it yesterday on my XB12R (with force headers and muffler, so the right airscoop doesn't fit) with 90F degrees, after one hour highway, 4000rpm's with some traffic lights, and the fan went on for 1:43 minute. On my XB9, with the right airscoop as seen above in the pictures, I haven't timed the same track with temperature, but it fans max. maybe 10-15 sec. after shutting down the engine. While riding no more fan anymore. |

My scoop came from Trojan. It is fiberglass and I painted it to match the right scoop. Looks great! |

Whats involved in putting on the right side scoop? Is it a straight removal of right side panel and replacement with scoop? David |

"Whats involved in putting on the right side scoop? Is it a straight removal of right side panel and replacement with scoop? " Yes, If you buy the fiberglass scoop, you also have to paint it. |

""Whats involved in putting on the right side scoop?" . . . . First, you have to let the burning hot engine cool down.

First, you have to let the burning hot engine cool down. Nah - only the rear cylinder gets burning hot. The front cylinder, where the air scoop needs to be fitted, is always cool to the touch due to being in the air stream. And, when you fit the rh scoop, the rear cylinder will be icy cold during normal operation (Please note that I am joking...!) |

LOL! OK, wait for rear cylinder to cool...remove original small panel/scoop. Install new right side scoop. Thanks, David |

Yes, very good point, with the added scoop, some may find it necessary as they ride down the road to vigorously rub the rear cylinder head in order to help get it up to temperature on a cool day.

Maybe we should integrate a heater then as well? |
