Hi guys just received the caberg justissimo helmet I ordered. I always have taken a large in my Arai helmets in the past. So I looked at the chart and got a large in this new helmet. It is my first flipup helmet, fits my head good. Now for the problem and my question. When I close the helmet the chin touches my chin. I not sure if this is safe? If I bite it face first could break my jaw. Now I could send it back fo a xlarge. Then it might be to big for my head. What do you guys think? By the way this helmet has a very cool sun visor that flips down like a aircraft helmet! Art | ||

Ah yes, one of the biggest problems of internet/mail orders....................if it were me, I wouldn't worry about it. | ||

Yea it sucks. But you just cant get anything like a nice helmet around here right now. Have to order about everything and roll the dice. | ||

That's a tough call. My arai almost touches my chin, but the helmet fits the way it should (snug) so I've never worried about it. How hard is it touching your chin? is there a bit of padding that you could sand down a bit to give you clearance? Do not go with the larger helmet. Loose helmets are bad for your neck! They are usually noisy too. | ||

If you absolutely must know if a larger size would be better I would try to find a larger one in a store that you could try on first before trading yours in for the bigger size with out knowing for sure. You definitely don't want to get stuck with a helmet that's too big for all the reasons Brian mentioned & then some. | ||

If you tamper/sand it down, it might invalidate your helmets warranty- thats if you do need to send it back at any point. And if the unthinkable happened your insurance might not pay because, you have modified your helmet. | ||

What do you mean by "the chin touches my chin"? If you mean the padding, well, it should. If you go face first, you want the "chin" of the helmet as close to yoursas possible to absorb the shock. If it is not already touching your chin, it will surely slam into it on impact. Not good. I think you just need to get used to a new type of helmet. Unless you have Jay Leno's chin on steroids, I'm sure the fit is fine if it does indeed fit your head well. | ||

Buckin: He is talking about the hard part of the helmet in front of the chin- there is no padding there. My Suomy touches my chin too. It bothers me a bit, but I can deal with it. I also wonder sometimes if it would result in a broken jaw since there is no room to compress. My big nose hit the top of the chin bar too. I cut out a small amount of plastic and foam at the top of the chin bar for clearance and used silicone to seal it up and get rid of the rough edges. I had the same problem with Bells. Shoei always fit me best, but I wanted to get a DOT and Euro rating without Snell after reading the Motorcyclist tests. The Suomy fit the bill the best for me as far as safety and quality. | ||

Hmmm... hard part rubbing chin may be uncomfortable, but it will not necessarily lead to a broken jaw. A jaw gets broken when a considerable force is exerted on it. The outer shell of the helmet will take that force and it will be absorbed by the foam inside. You may get more bruising due to lack of padding, but it is no more likely to lead to a broken jaw than a softer more comfortable fit. | ||

Better impact-wise if the helmet is touching your chin to start with, just like it is better that your head is touching the helmet. It might not be comfortable though. The main thing is that the helmet fits your skull well.  | ||

Thanks guys. Took a two hour ride tonight with the new lid. Not to bad at all really think I just have to get used to it. It fits my melon perfect Blake, just never had a helmet that my chin touched before. My question has been answered! Wow did I mention that its freezing down here, so cold!  |
