Well after hitting a cow on my way to work Friday June 16th it looks like my Cyclone will be totaled.

I have a broken clavicle, broken rib, and a head injury. The good part is I was wearing all of my protective gear so I don't have a lot of road rash. I do not remember the 5 minutes before the crash nor anything after until the EMT's were getting me ready for the air ambulance ride to the hospital. First time I ever rode a helicopter. Don't know yet how long I laid out there before someone called the accident in.

Ride safe fellow Buellers!

At least you lived to see another day!!! Quick healing, and all that. The bike can be replaced, it is the other stuff that can't...

Ouch! Really happy you're still around to tell the tale. From the sound of it you got away "easy." Good for you.

Heal quickly and completely.

Thinks for all the good thoughts everybody. I should be out and about soon. Don't know if that will be on a bike or not, but most likely.

Grndskpr, thinks for the offer I may take you up on it. I have seen pictures of the bike but I haven't seen it myself to make an opinion to fix it or not. In the picture it looks like the frame may be bent. Of course the wife was already grumbling when I made mention of buying it back.

Lake, the cow I hit is in cow heaven they shot it as they were loading me on the copter.

I was involved in a serious accident years ago and still do not remember anything 1 hour before and 10 days after the crash!!

I am sure that this is GOD's way of easing the shock of it all...!!

How the hell did a cow happen to be in the road?
I'm not really a "sue-er" but someone should be resposible, right?

It's good to hear you are to be up and about soon.

Keep us posted ok?

It's open range out West. Especially in rural areas. There are cattle guards, and fences strung up everywhere, but they get out. A lot of federal land is leased for grazing, and there's too much of that to fence off.

Heal up soon there, Z-man
You should see about getting that cow - it's BBQ season, big-time, and you're gonna need lots of good protein for that mending process! I'll have that steak medium rare, thank you! The cows spirit may be in "cow heaven", but you can bet somebody has the poor dears' carcass dressed, quartered and hanging up in the cooler to age.

Was it fate that you live in a town, according to your profile, that is Spanish for 'Cow-Town'?!

Feel better soon and we'll see ya on the road!

Hacksaw,

Sorry to hear about this. I've posted a number of times on BWB about freaking cows. I have hit a cow too.

That cow had/has (the cow I hit walked away) a owner and they're liable. I'd recommend you get an attorney as soon as you can.

Get well and take care.

Badwebbers are the best! Thanks for all the well wishes.

Yes I still hurt when I laugh, but I really hurt when I sneeze.

Vacaville now is suburban area although we still have ranches here and there. My wife talked to a local rancher the other day that we know and he says he gets calls all the time about his cattle being out, someone has hit his fence and don't bother to tell him or anyone else. He says he carries lots of insurance because of that.

My wife works for an attorney so that part is already taken care of, he has already asked what I am getting him for his birthday. I told him it depends on what he gets me on this case.

Don't know what the cow looks like accept dead. It may be a special variety called a Scottish Highland according to the guy that went to take pictures of the the crash site.

Sorry to hear of the crash, hope you recover fully! I was out west the last week and there were signs everywhere with pictures of cows..like a deer sign here in the east. I agree on the liability, get a good lawyer, you deserve compensation for pain and property loss. I hit a deer once on my Goldwing and the impact was incredibly hard. A cow is about 10x the size and mass. BTW, the deer crash was listed on my driver record as my fault and my bike and car insurance went up like 50% for three years.

Den

So you are run into by a deer and it is your fault? We need a good open season on does as well as bucks for awhile.

Got the CHP report yesterday it says I hit a calve. Don't know how old the calve was.

I am getting better each day, I think it is the good nursing I am getting.

Yup my fault, didn't know until my bike insurance went from $300/year to $500/ year. Here's the story. I am riding at about 45 around a blind curve with a pick up truck about 5 seconds behind. A deer comes out from the side of the road going right to left. The deer stops in the oncoming lane and looks at me, I am braking but afraid to stop hard or the truck will come around the bend and hit me. The deer takes a step to the left so I go to the right and the deer turns around and bolts right into the fairing. Knocked a 900 lb bike right out from under me into the ditch on the right side of the road. The deer and I are laying in the road and the truck zips past my head about a foot away. The cops arrive and find deer hair/blood on my bike but decide that I overreacted and it was my fault. I never filed for an accident report so I didn't know until it was time to renew my insurance. A year later I went with Geico since they didn't penalize me for a deer accident. They were almost $100 less than my pre-deer rates (about $225 for three bikes, no medical and no collision). I ended up with tons of road rash, costochondritis (swollen ribs, very painful) torn cartilage in my left shoulder that has still not been fixed. Since it's not painful or limits my mobility I never had the loose tissue removed, it just clicks when I move my arm to the limits. My recovery took about 8 weeks and the road rash was the worst and most painful injury. I have worn an armored jacket ever since. Den

Zane,

Where did that happen at? I lived in Sonoma from 1985-2001 and spent a some time on some of the back roads up around Vacaville.

For any that may have missed the joke, Zane lives in Vacaville, CA and vaca is the Spanish word for "cow". So the guy from cowtown hit the town's namesake.

Get well soon and get back up on two wheels!

Jack

Thanks Grndskpr I am afraid the nurse(wife) will have something to say about rebuilding the Cyclone. Oh well right now I can't complain.

Den, gratefully I had on a Firstgear mesh jacket with some padding in the shoulder, back and elbows. The only road rash I got was to places on both wrists about the size of a 50 cent piece. If I take a deep breath it hurts my chest but that is going slowly away. My right shoulder and chest are very bruised. My right eye was swollen shut for the first three days after the accident. I remember nothing about the accident so I don't know what the calve did, nor why I didn't see it since I am on constant look out for deer. I will be going back to the site in a few more days to see if I can figure out why I didn't see the calve.

Jack, it happened on Pleasants Valley road about a half mile north of Lagoon Valley/Cherry Glen road. I didn't miss the joke just had to control laughing since that still causes me to hurt a bit.

Hacksaw,
If they total the bike and you buy it back.
And if it looks like too much work/hassle, I may be interested in the motor.
I have a really nice S1 frame looking for a propulsion unit..

Seriously, I hope you can get your M2 back on the road.
M2 frames come up all the time on Ebay if yours is bent.

Good luck and glad to hear you faired the crash better than the cow!!
