How is it that S1 owners can ask between 5 and 8k for a S1 AND S2 owners are out of their minds if they ask anywhere near that!!! just doesn't make sense!! JT |

JT, S1, LIGHTNING heads(t-sotrms are 99 adn up..) There is also a cam difference if I am not mistaken... S=plaitc work(obviously)...but to my knowledge, those are really the only differences, the frames and wheels, etc are the same.. Chase |

If an S1 doesnt willie by surprise and almost throw you off. It might have a problem and for sure isnt up to dealer DEMO specs at the time they were new. (Message edited by mmmi_grad on June 25, 2006) |

Something about the S1 is a little sexier looking, more hp, but I still am looking forward to an S2T in my garage someday! |

I'm with ya on this, JT The few S1's I've ridden were big fun, for a SHORT ride, then after a few more miles it kinda resembled rectal surgery, but without the anesthesia. My RS with the S2 bodiwork and turbo is probably worth about as much, or maybe just slightly more, than what S2's are going for. (It has a LOT more HP than an S1, too!) I would like to sell it, as I rarely ride it, but am not up for losing 70% of what I have in it. There's a PRISTINE '91 RS on craigslist right now for $6500 - IMHO it's worth 2X that. AL |

I JUST HAD TO VENT!!! IT MAKES NO SENSE WHAT SO EVER...A S2 WITH A LITTLE MOTOR WORK IS A MUCH BETTER ROAD BIKE THAN A S1...S1 MAY BE BETTER ON THE TRACK(HOW MANY REALLY TRACK THEM)..BUT FOR THE ROAD/TRAVEL..HANDS DOWN...S2 IS A BETTER ALL ROUND MACHINE!!! @#$%&! PS..S1W ARE SWEET...WORTH DOUBLE...NO WAY JT |

The S1 evokes the raw viceral(sp?) image of nasty fun. The S2 speaks a different language. A slightly more sedate and relaxed life. Hike the S2s skirt up a notch and you can see what ya really have. Emotional imagery drives the bus that we are but passengers on. |

ChaseSpeed, you are wrong, '98 and up have the lightning heads. '96 S1's had the stock sportster motor '97 S1's had the lightning heads '98 had the thunderstorms I have three S2's and one S1WL, and an XB9sx. The S1 will smoke the S2's, except the one with the Nallin 1250 kit. The S2's handling is better, but with the lighter flywheels and thunderstorm heads, the S1 just has more raw power, and makes you giggle like a little girl on prom night when you wack the throttle. I just can't win tonight. My afore mentioned comments were, shall we say. Aimed at how the bikes were marketed and portrayed. As for the skirt comment. Simply a metaphor. The S2 does wear a little more clothing than the S1. |

JT, If I had to choose between my '92(RS) or the '97(S1). I would have to have a chat with EFB first. |

JT, I agree. In my opinion the S2 should be the one fetching the higher dollar numbers.

I've had the S2, it is like a Cadillac. The S1 I've ridden on and it was more like a hopped up Camaro. Not sure many of the S1 cycles are actully getting $8k though. Though think about it this way a 1995 motorcycle is going for approx $4-5K and then the 2005 XB12r is going for $6-7k. Very interesting never the less. |

ok, Im new to this forum and to being an S2 owner,, but you can easily make 100 rear wheel hp out of the 1200 motor. I have owned 8 sporsters all 1200's and have had several that dyno'd at 125hp,,without sacrificing longevity..,,you dont have to have the throttle Wide Open all the time. With the gearing of the S2, a full race motor could easily go 25,000 miles without a problem.. Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong (quote Dennis Miller)... ron |
