Take it to a dealer and see what your AFV level is at. Should be at 100%. My XB12 did the same thing and my Fuel Value was 98%. Just enough to make it backfire a little. .02

its now at a dealer.
backfiring got way worse over 4k RPM, under 3k RPM it rode fine.

Rich, that is what happened to mine earlier this year...started with backfiring, then wicked hesitation and then the bike just quit. The dealer couldn't find anything, but when I installed the race ecm, drummer, K&N and tps reset, it all went away. Good luck.

Lucky I have a race can, waiting on filter and ECM.
I hope this is fixed because the Race ECM is on backorder and the bike is UNRIDEABLE.
literally the condition the bike is in it cant be ridden.

I think Daves said he had race ecm's. If not, check with American Sport Bike and see if Al has a remapped one for ya. From what I hear you will be waiting a while on a race ecm from most dealers.

I emailed American sportbike and he said his were on back order too. I would buy one TODAY if i could get my hands on one.

Rich, keep us posted on the outcome...I'm especially interested in the findings. As I mentioned in my post above, I experienced very similar problems and I'm convinced I solved the problem by buying a race ecm. If the fault on your bike is the stock ECM, I wonder what the boys at the dealer will do?

Yep thats just what happened to my 03 9s.
it was all fine for about 300 miles from new.
during this time the race kit (race ecm, K&N and race muffler) were on order.

But about 300 miles it stared to Backfire, it had less go then before and was a bit hard to start.

Had race kit fitted ...... all ok ever since?

still have no idea what was wrong, dealer said it may have been the TPS needed resetting (which is done when the race kit is fitted) which fixed it?

Going lean for no apparent reason, I would check the battery terminals, grounds and the condition of the O2 sender wire over the #2 rocker box.

Always good news to hear about New plms. in away, so one can get a handle on them, or is this one out of a Thousand or so type deal?
