Hi all, Im a new buell/motorcycle owner and i want to get the best life and performance out of my bike. Is there any mods I can have done that will get me better gas mileage and less wear/overall life on my engine. It has a Vance and hines exhust with K&N filter and also a power Commander on it. My main worries were I heard that air cooled bikes dont last as long especialy in stop and go traffic because of the heat. Im going to a HD shop and another shop in a day or so and am going to ask those guys about it too. thanks in advance. |

Use synthetic engine oil, Mobil 1, Syn3 from Harley, etc. Word has it that Mobil 1 gear oil will trash the stator. |

Words of Wisdom 1. Get rid of the K&N and put a paper element in. K&N's flow alot of dirt and get plugged quicker than a paper element. Save the K&N for "competition use only." 2. Use synthetic oil. I recommend Mobil1 15w-50. You can use it both in the engine and tranny. I recommend you stay far away from Mobil1 Gear Lube. 3. Make sure you let the engine get nice and warm before running it hard. Be wary of hitting redline on a Buell -- the piston speeds on a Buell get close to Superbike velocities at redline, so stick to a max of ~ 5500 rpm if you want the engine to last! 4. Get a factory manual. 5. Best for last -- sign up for a track day at your local racetrack. The $300 you spend on a trackday is worth 10 times more than any part you can buy... and then you can humble many R1's at your local twisties!!! |
