Anyone tried mounting the XB12s (long) swing arm on the City X? Would seem to be a step towards developing a "mini" Ulysses Thanks |

I believe this topic was covered before and it was stated that alot of work was involved for minimal benefit. Just my recollection though, check the knowledge vault. |

I was just at the dealer last week and saw that the new swingarm is on the firebolt's too so I beleave since the bolt and the city x are basicly the same frame that it would work, I dont think it would be cheep to do but would work |

The Firebolt and CityX have the exact same swingarm, he's talking about the swingarm from a Lightning Long or Ulysses. On a '06 it could be done fairly easily. To retro-fit to a pre '06, not so much, lots of things are different. |

Buelldualsport - as the lunatic who's been using his CityX as a big trailie, I can say first hand it's not the rear suspension you have to worry about. fitting Uly front forks to the CityX would be a more suitable step in the right direction. Especially my first time of gravel / 2 track with the CityX, I bottomed the front several times, but never the rear - more travel w/ the ability to run lower damping rates would make it much easier to manage.( and yes, I've run dirt bikes for many years, and my technique is just fine, thanks. haven't broken anything, or dropped the bike, for that matter) - tires ( specifically rim sizes) are the major drawback. WIDTH is a major stumbling block. the front is ok, but finding a trail tire for the 5.5" rear rim is a real pita. best compromise I've seen so far is Avon ProExtreme Rains - decent tread, and grip, at the expense of on-road wear ( same as any other enduro tire..)reportedly there are MT60 Corsa's available in 'just fit' sizes..I'm still chasing that lead. - muffler can. mines already got a decent trail dent. no issues with strength, or coming loose, but you've gotta admit, its LOW. Raising the bike is fine...but then you might as well just get a Uly, which wasn't an option for me. - luggage for longer rides. day trip / weekenders, the Buell soft luggage is ok, but for longer trips, you're S.O.L. the tail is too short to even accept standard MOUNTS, let alone good capacity hard bags. Good news is, the soft luggage held up fine for trail work - and I didnt go all that easy on the trails yesterday. All of the issues are solvable, but time, money, and how much customizing you want to do are the big issues. having done a couple of decent runs now, including a portion of the BC big trailie run yesterday, I've got an idea of what it'll take....but almost all of it is fab work, rather than 'off the shelf' solutions. |

Thanks We are looking at alternative way to get a mini Uly, without the expense of replacing the spring/rear shock on the Uly. The City with the slightly longer swingarm, looks to be an attractive alternative to $850 out of pocket to lower the Uly. Thanks for the ideas |

Ulendo: Been following the Tire Thread on Advrider. Someone mentioned a Trails Type tire (don't remember all the facts) might be available to fit the Buell. Will see if I can relocate that thread. Thanks |

Ulendo: A thought on the front suspension: The from end of a 99 - 2001 X1/S3/S3T might be an interesting conversion. They are easy enough to locate and they use a conventional rotor/caliper setup, that might be the way to go. Will take a caliper to the fork tubes on the X1 setting in the shop and get back with you. Thanks |

Buelldualsport - its the travel I'm interested in. the Uly forks are longer with 1.75-2" more travel available. the CityX preload / damper are adjustable enough to prevent bottoming....at the expense of rattling your teeth out on potholed, rutted, and washboard 2-track. possible tires people have brought up: Anakees - based on this weekends run, no better than the sync's TKC80's - very aggressive, but sizing issues MT60 Corsa's. supposedly available in OE sizes, but I cant find them in N,America Avon ProExtreme Rains - good, OE sizes available, 'enduro' tread, road rated. Avon Distazia's - good, OE sizes, 90/10 tire, very road biased. like the Anakees, not sure if they're actually any better than the sync's I was running with V-Stroms, KTM950 Adventures, and BMW's over the weekend. only guys who had a serious tire advantage over the syncs were the HP2's...other were using Metzler sahara's, anakees', Distanzia's - pretty much the same list as here. |
