Alright guys, need some help here. I am having problems with the neutral switch on my 99 X-1; as soon as I shift into gear, the bike dies. While I was troubleshooting, I found a switch that was hanging down around the gauge console (see pic). When I held it in, the problem seemed to go away (then again it is an intermittent problem, and could just be coincindence). Can I get some help from the peanut gallery? |

Clutch? As in pull in the clutch to start the bike? |

There are 2 interlock switches. One on the clutch and one on the side stand. The side stand one closes when the stand is up. The connector is just inside the frame above the side stand. I have shorted it inside this connector to disable it. BOTH can cause your problem. Let's just call them "idiot protection". (There so that you don't ride off with the side stand down, nor start the bike with the clutch out. |

My kickstand idiot switch crapped out at about 35K. It has been replaced by a jumper ever since. HATE that idiot crap. |

Firedude; that switch used to be screwed to your clutch lever. Find a screw that fits and fix the switch back in place and you're good to go. Henrik |
