tryed to post this a few times... im an idiot

new XB12R with 400 miles so far.
this is my mod plan: drummer exhaust, direct link ECM (is this a programmer?), open airbox from American Sport Bike, hydraulic clutch, billit dipstick, synthetic oil for tranny and engine at 500 miles... I guess the dealer has to reset the tps... maybe american sports bike can do it?

would love any and all feedback on my plan

THANKS!!!

I had ran my 04 XB12R with no chin spoiler for about 3K miles. I kinda liked the looks of it without. Anyway, the things I noticed were that the motor tends to get very dirty down there and also the stock muffler started to rust out real bad. I know that exhaust rusting seems to be a common thing on the XBs, but I mean mine was really bad. Probally from water and debris being kicked up there and settling. I also live close to the beach and saltwater. I now have a factory race kit with the polished exhaust and I have reinstalled the chin spoiler.

no opinions? oil is a crazy subject... I plan HD syn 3 engine oil and formula+ trans... seems more expensive but also the more simple!

Direct Link is a software kit. You are going to be $600+ bucks in the hole just for the software and key for your bike, then you should really get the Buell Race ECM to remap.. then you'll need some dyno time and a knowledgeable person to actually tune it.. Oh yeah and you need to have a sniffer for A/F so drill some holes in your headers. If you are just going to get a Drummer, I would just get the Race ECM and be done with it. The Direct Link is more expensive than anyone's butt dyno will feel results from. I have the American Sport Bike open airbox kit coming and will be running it with the race ecm and a jardine slip-on.

Don't waste the money on Harley oil, it's overpriced. Use Mobil1 20-50 v-twin in engine and primary, available at most o-reily and autozones. If you really want to you can also use the Mobil1 75-90 synthetic gear oil in the primary, but I can't feel a difference and the v-twin oil is cheaper.

I would go Red Line 20W-50 in the engine AND the trans.

RL has the highest shear strength of any oil normally used in these bikes.

Great stuff.

M1 Twin oil is great also.

Here is a Drummer CF with no chin spoiler on an XB12Ss. The road grit that normally would hit the chin spoiler hits the collector. No big deal. I prefer the look with no fairing, but it's a matter of taste. Kevin has the spoiler brackets if you want them.

i have the direct link software. it cost me 500.00 for the key(you need this no mater what) the software/cables and the map. if you buy a map already for YOUR combination(there are many already made) no dyno time is needed. al at american sportbike is the man to talk to on this. if you choose to get the software which i would recamend you can remap your bike yourself(easy) and do it many times as needed. which means the stock map can be "pushed" back in if you ever sell it or change you combination. you also can do your own tps resets, a/f reset, play w/ the accell tables etc. etc..

i do not ride w/ the chin spoiler. i have a jardine muffler on the bike w/ a scotts stainless steel oil filter. (see profile for pic)

my exhaust is wrapped w/ DEI header wrap and then i coated it w/ there header wrap high temp silicone spray, i also painted the muffler w/ it.(see pic)

i run only amsoil 20-50 synthetic oil. (oil and trans) always have and always will..just works good for "ME" as i have it in all my bikes i've had.

hope this helps you!
