I am about to replace my pilot powers on my xb. I need more mileage out of a set. However I dont want to sacrafice to much performance for it. Im crossed between Pirelli Diablo stradas Or the Pilot power roads. Wich tire will give me the best performance and mileage? Thanks |

I am running the Strada's. Have a look at both in person if possible. That pretty much sold me on the Pirellis. I have been happy as a clam with their grip and mileage looks to go 7000 on the rear. As of now I have 2100 miles and no flat spot. The rear is worn down to 1/8" chicken strip. I got @ 5000 out of my pilot power rear before giving up to the center tread wear demons. NUTS |

First hand experience tells me conti road attacks. If you are a knee draggin kind of guy that rides way to fast in the canyons try the sport attacks. I have gotten more mileage out of the road attacks than anything else I have tried by a factor of two. They also stick well enough to run stupid fast around the turns. Last 2 years I have spent 2500+ on tires. The Road attacks are going to lower my annual tire budget to around 500.00 |

Tires and mileage, the age-old question. Here's my statement on this, backed by first hand evidence of my own. Dunlop D207 or 208: 2800 Mi. front / rear -- poor all around performance Metzeler Sportec M1 : 2500 Mi. rear / 3200 Front -- perfect dry weather performance. Metzeler Roadtec Z6 : 5800 Mi. rear / 7500 front -- Very good all-weather performance I just replaced my second rear Z6 tire with a Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier and am still using my second Z6 on the front. I was at the point where I had to change the back tire or risk being stranded deep in Riverside county, the land of sharp rocks and nails in the roadway. Waiting 3-8 days for UPS to show up with a Z6 was not an option. The rear dunlop is performing well for the moment, but I can tell now after just 3 trips over the hill that I will be replacing that tire again in the very near future. If you are not a track rider and your normal riding leaves about 1/8" of untouched rubber at the very edge of your tires, then the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 is for you. Very economical and long lasting. It never left me wanting for more traction and the few times when I've been caught in the wet, they provided a reliable and stable braking experience, even in the turns. |

Diablo Strada's are on my XB12 for about 3000 miles, should easily get 7K out of them. Awesome tires, dragged pegs several times and they never missed a beat. Will run them again. |

This website needs a tire review area. Everyone could post their experiences with various tires and be done with it. This comes up about once a week. |

Let me amend my previous post by saying that the Z6 at 5800 miles is not worn out by any means, just that with all the straight freeway riding I was doing it got a bit flat down the middle. If I hadn't recently changed my commuting destination I could have run that back tire out to 7000 miles no problem. My new work area is in a largely unincorporated area where the roads are in bad shape so I err on the side of caution. I wonder what the price difference is between the Diablo and the Z6? I hear nothing but good about those Diablo's so maybe when this dunlop wears out I might replace both tires and give them a try. For my side of the cost comparison, I get the Z6 for $180 rear and $150 front. That price is mounted, balanced, out the door, ride in, ride out. If I get them both at the same time it's just over $300 total because my wheel guy gives me a break on the labor when I do both. |

If you're interested - this evaulation of the D209's by the FASTEST Twins-Class racer out at Willow Springs - Kenny Kopecky (and I'm a Pirelli guy so this has some credibility) - keep in mind 500 miles at these speeds is FOREVER! 200-300 miles is usually WAY past throw-out time. Kenny Kopecky is racing the 999R so he's giving these tires a workout!!!! From: http://ducatitech.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=4068 Well, as a final follow-up to my original report (first ride on D209's at http://www.ducatitech.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=3924 )... we managed to run over 220 miles on the same set of 209's at Willow yesterday (thanks to TrackDaz and Desmo Owners Club of San Diego!). Combined with the approx. 290 miles we already had on them (from TrackDaz May 7th, one WSMC Advanced Racer Clinic and the Streets/TrackDaz last Friday) they ended up with just over 500 race track miles the past 4 weeks. Most I've ever put on one set at the track in my life, by far. The rear is now officially wasted. BUT! (yes, there is a but...) These things were still giving good traction and drives off the fast turns and did nothing unusual all day (and it was 101 to 102 in the shade in our trailer yesterday). My friend Robbie Dowie did make a good point yesterday...our pace wasn't "race pace" but I don't ride that way at track days anyway - as some people would call it I s'pose it's still a good race group pace. Rear was a hard, front was a medium (and doesn't look nearly as bad as the rear simply because of the way I drive the 160hp bike hard off the turns...) We already have a replacement set from Sport Tire Services ( http://www.sporttire.com/ ), we'll be keepin' 209's on the Moto Forza/TrackDaz bike. Good stuff. |

Im running Pirelli Diablo stradas and really like them. The have good traction in wet and dry conditions but they take a little while to warm up. I also had Scorpion syncs and liked those. I only switched to Stradas hoping for a few more miles between tire changes. |

I just got a set of Z6's put on the XB12S. I used to run them all the time on my SV (well Z4s on the SV) and loved them there. Holy cow, night and day from the 208s. Even just taking it really easy to scrub the newness off them, I could feel an incredible difference. |

I just finished two days with CLASS at Road America with new Dunlop Qualifiers on my FJR instead of my usual Z6s. Last year I did two hot days with CLASS, loved the Z6s and proceeded to put 9000miles on them after the two tracks days. Killer tires in all conditions. The Qualifiers are fine in the dry, but I would not wish them on anyone in the wet. It rained yesterday pretty good. Any time there was water on the track, the Qualifiers slid at any lean angle. Traction was fine when upright, but they were terrifying when leaned over to any degree. I'm getting Z6s back on it today. |

Josh, thanks for that info. I have a qualifier on the back right now, as I mentioned before... and behold, today it is raining and about 15 minutes from now I was to depart. I'm taking the car. |

I just changed from the Pilot Roads to a set of Diablo Stradas about two weeks ago. First off let me say that I really liked the handling of the Mich. tires way better than the original D208 Dunlops, and the three times the life span was great also. My initial reaction to the Strada's is that they "tip in" a little better in a corner then the Roads do and are extremely predictable changing a line in a corner. So far I am liking them and would recommend them to any one seeking a more sport/touring tire. |

Whats the general opinion of the stock dunlops vs. the stock pirellis? Average miles? Handling? Got about 4500 on my stock dunlops and the back is getting a flat spot from all the highway riding. Time to replace. thanks, -Jeff |

It is my opinion that the Pirelli Diablo Strada and Metzeler Z6 are the same tire. When I bought my Stradas I compared alot of tires side by side and it appears these are the same with the exception of slightly different cuts in the tread. Same manufacturing plant height profile etc... The strada is a different profile than the regular Diablo. However the Diablo and Diablo corsa appeared to be the same. So if your running Z6's then you have a Strada underneath you or vice versa. I would think the Strada could be found cheaper because it isn't associated as strongly with BMW. BMW owners are renowned for paying through the nose for Metz's, like HD guys and Dunlops. The rant endeth here. NUTS |

While they (Pirelli and Metzler) are made at the same plant, the company claims there are differences in compound and internal construction between the 2 brands on the similar niche targeted tires. |

I've used the Metzeler Sportec M1's for the last two track sessions with Keith Code's California Superbike School and I could not be more pleased with these tires. I've never actually worn out a set, because I always replace them with a new set before the next session but I'm pretty sure I've gotten a lot more than 2,800 miles out of the rear. They are also the most rock solid tires in the rain I've EVER experienced. I'll have to try the Z6 next but I don't think I'll do that till after I've completed a "Level 4" session with CSS. |

I know that continental has not made a name for themselves here in the states but the Road attacks are Sweet. I was buing tires every two to two and a half months before them. They work excellent in the rain and leaned way over. Risk 200 dollars and find out for yourself. The stradas are nice handling tires but they dont wear near as well. I rode no faster on them either. |

pirelli diablo on rear & diablo corsa on front .. took little damage on track after 130 miles on track on tight course. had many miles on road .. 2000+ miles of hard riding on really rough, cracked & patched western canadian roads. pirelli diablo has pronounced 'V' section .. quick turn-in & intense feedback. downside is quick 'squaring off' of rear tire, particularly. BUT .. 2 big burnouts & all above have made abt 1/4 wear. i am looking for more rear traction tho, as last session on cooliong track got me a little uncomfortable w/. reduced grip. didn't help that instructor had pirelli world superbike slicks on his race only 2006 r1. man that thing was sweet & tricked out!! |

I've got the Sportec M1's on an XB12Ss. See my earlier thoughts on the subject. The short and sweet is that they're the best performance mod money can buy for that bike! IMHO, YMMV. |

I'm using the M3's on a 12R and I like them. Like the M1's but more sticky and maybe a little more friendly towards the edge on the front tire. They're still very sensitive to pressure though, especially on the front. |

Fastfxrs - I got 2500 miles on the original D208's. Put me in the category of not liking that tire - fast wear - handling quirks. 7500 miles on the Pilot Roads. Would have been more but my last 1500 miles had lots of superslabbing on them. I expect about the same out of the Strada's. |

Those Shinko's up there... Why in the heck do they need so much water evac near the edge? You'll never be over that far in the rain, and it's a waste of available traction in the dry. I'd pass them up until their tread pattern engineers start thinking properly. |
