Hey I've been working on my xb9s for a while. It started off I bought the bike with 5k and it came with a force exhaust. I thought it sounded cool but quickly realized what a nightmare it was to tune! Well one time I was checking the plugs to se how lean or rich it was running after I put a TFI on it and the rear plug started cross threading! So I bought the service manual for my bike and rotated the engine and rethreaded the spark plug hole, just the top four or five threads. That went smooth enough got everything back together with a chopped tail new paint and a new two tone black and red select seat to match the paint everything came out sweet. So to replace that p o s force pipe {which I found a hole in the exhaust}I got the original drummer and an open air box kit put them on and everything seemed to run great. I got the TPS reset and the next day I was riding and it started to sputter. I would give it full throttle and it would choke and not exelerate at all unles my RPMs were at about 5000. Then it cleared up and the bike was pulling harder then ever, but then it came back and is doing it worse than ever now. Any sudgestions I'm checking the plugs and I sprayed around the intake to check for a leak but it doesn't efect the idle at all.

What are your TFI settings and do you have the race or stock ECM?

I proved conclusively to myself that an XB9 with Race ECM, original Drummer, K&N and open airbox did not need a TFI. The XB12 is another story.

I took the TFI off when I put the new pipe on Kevin said I wouldn't need it with the drummer. I just run the race ecm now, no TFI.

According to your profile the XB is a 03. If it still has the original plug wires, It would be advisable to update them with the latest version. The new plug wires are more durable. The reason I know this is when I removed my original plug wires they just came apart as if the metal clip was not even attached.

If you do replace them purchase some dielectric grease to make sure the wires go on correctly and the metal clips click in place.

My experience for what it's worth.

pyro,
sounds like the tps is not set correctly..have it done again and make sure they put negative turn on the throttle grip to fully seat the throttle plate in the bore and then reset...this should fix it..

I am having a similar problem. XB9S 03, D&D, K&N, race ECM. Have had this set up for a couple of years but recently after about 15 to 25 minutes of riding the engine light comes on. There is a hesitation in throttle response and bike sputters in the upper RPMs. Only have about 5000 miles on it. Am I just due for a 5000 mile service? TPS reset?

Well I put new plugs and 8mm wires on it and tried cleaning the injectors and it still does sputters. Also it starts up fine then after the rpms drop it dies, the only way to keep it going is to have my idle adjuster all the way in and it smells really rich. I think I'm going to break down and take it to a dealership or shoot myself!!!!!!!!!!!!
