Blake's a great guy, but his people skills are even worse than mine. I suggest he contents himself with lining up adverstisers, and keeping the lights on.

We need to do an exorcism.

Blake is a great guy, his people skills are way better than most and he is the reason this board thrives even when many have chosen to be set against it.

I'll take Blake over any of the "others" any day.

Who is "we" anyway?

Snail - What's up? Blake is not perfect, but I have never met anyone that is. Your post lately leave me wondering what is motivating you. But at the same time I really do not want to know.

You're as wrong a wrong can be. Blake is the reason this board exists and the backbone of its existence.

It is his board, his rules, and I'm perfectly happy with that. You can go away if you don't like it that way.

Your profile shows you as being here since yesterday Get some time on the board and then decide.

I've not yet met Blake in person, but as far as the way he portrays himself here, he seems to be a good guy. He uses logic, sticks to his guns, and gets his points across so they're easily understood.

I don't think his people skills are lacking at all. I think there are certain types of personalities that some folks just don't get along with, and there are times when there are people that you just don't like, but for no definitive reason. There are a few people in my life who I just don't like. I don't have a reason, I don't know why, and they don't really seem to be assholes. I just don't like them. There are definitely a few people on this board like that.

So maybe Blake is one of those people to you and some others?

I think Blake has some pretty reasonable people skills. He has shown himself to be both more patient and more forgiving than most people I know, myself included. The use of member suspensions and banning is not an indicator of a people skills handicap. Those, unfortunately, are necessary tools for maintaining the board’s order. A board’s owner has every right to set the level of order to which HIS board will aspire and to use the tools at his disposal to keep it on track. Has Blake made mistakes? No doubt. Will he make mistakes in the future? Of course. That is part of being human. Let ye who have not sinned....

I have been surprised and shocked, at times, to see Blake’s willingness to welcome back those who go on antagonistic and hostile attack binges. Dyna, Rocket, 420, Tramp, and many, many more have been extremely abusive toward Blake and other members. Yet, all were given chances to come back and play nice. Personally, I’d have nuked’em all permanently, not for the good of the board, but to save myself the headache. Blake, it appears, is a bigger man, than I. Indeed, the board is that much better for it.

Snail, it seems you’re forgetting that nobody has a gun to your, mine or anyone else’s head, forcing participation here. Blake doesn’t owe any of us a vote in the flavor his board will have. That he is willing to hear and discuss suggestions is a testament to his considerable PEOPLE SKILLS. (I am not yelling!)

We should be thanking the man for giving us a nice place to meet, discuss, learn and have fun, instead of bringing borgesque whiny, bitching complaints about the manner in which he provides it for us.

Phil

My apologies to Snail, I misread his last logged on date for the registered date. I need to be more careful...

Thanks for pointing that out to me Peter.

And I make no pretence of being an "old timer" on the BadWeb. I got a Buell last spring, I found BadWeb, and have read or reviewed nearly every post nearly every day since then. It was that simple.

I love it here the way it is.

Hi Paul,

Well, you have already produced something positive (I hope) from this thread... You brought me out of lurking mode.

I trust that you're proposing this entirely tongue-in-cheek... Its just such a funny suggestion, I can't imagine it being anything else! You're a fisherman, and it shows (yep, you got this little minnow to bite).

Here's an analogy that comes to mind:

Let's suppose you invite a bunch of us for a clam bake, a sumptuous feast, complete with a band, a place to stay for the night, and everything (fond memories of such an event). Now lets suppose one of your guests asked you, as the host, to serve the food, clean up, and generally insure their pleasant stay, but asked you to do so without comment. Even if they insult you, trash your house and break things, you're not to say anything. Now lets further suppose that you, as the host, allowed this guest to come, and even provided him with his own room, where he could hold court with the other guests.

I'd have to say you're an extraordinary host if all that happened (and parts of it really did, thanks !)

Rebuttal:

I said I'd look at Badweb in an unbiased manner and recommend changes necessary to try to stop the loss of good members. That's what I'm doing, and I'm serious.

Blake is a friend, and sometimes it takes a good friend to let you know you have snot hanging from your nose, a bad friend won't mention it.

Blake's an alpha male and has been biting.

Since the majority of the posts show a contentment with the status quo, and since you are too imature to follow even a semblence of Roberts Rules of Proceedure, I don't think anything of value will come from my efforts, and I'm perfectly willing to drop it.

Snail,

Instead of demanding this and that (which got you your own floor show), why don't you just sink a flag on the board like a member and keep swinging? If you want to add to Badweb, do it by contribution instead of counter-insurgency.

You just took an enviable moto-ride with friends and not one word about it here. Yeah, I know it was with non-"Bedwetters" and Sacborgers, but that is at least worth talking about or posting a pic or two. I saw the thread on Sacborg...I'll say it again...enviable.

You can't poke in here once in a blue moon and make demands...it looks wierd. I hear from Blake that you're an OK guy. Maybe you are and maybe you're not. I am Blake's friend, and I trust his judgement.

Jon, back off. You've exceeded your post allotment for this topic.

Please make your point then shut up. I'd like to here a little bit from everbody rather than a lot from a few. Specially repeats.

TWO short posts, is that too hard to comprehend?

Consider this a quasi public meeting, and I'm the chairman. Conduct yourselves accordingly or leave the meeting.

I have several more points to bring up for discusion. I encourage you to voice an opinion, but please, two posts. Short. No superfluous discussion and asides.

Comment and then a rebuttal to the rebuttal:

Comment:
It's a fine line to the point of walking a razor's edge barefoot to attempt to own a discussion web site and manage/moderate it while at the same time being a participant in it. A bar tender usually stands behind the bar and not on the floor with the patrons, and sometimes when the bartender does hit the floor it is to hit a patron, but sometimes it's just to participate so it's hard to say sometimes what the 'tender is going to do when he comes around from behind the bar. Regardless of that it is a difficult task to separate personal from public and subjective from objective when it's one's own house so to speak. Perhaps Blake could play with an alter ego, "Admin" could be Blake the owner and admin and barkeep, "Blake" could be Blake the participant. I saw what happened online when he tried to offer up some suggestions about a Texas-local event, he was told like I was once to functionally stay out of the kitchen, so he did, as did I, regardless of any value he could have added as a simple participant.

This got to long, probably lost my intent in the words, so I'll end this comment portion as it is, meaningless or not, apply or ignore, your choice.

Rebuttal to the rebuttal:
"I don't think anything of value will come from my efforts, and I'm perfectly willing to drop it."
If it's so easy to drop, then was the initial intent strong enough of a motivation? If it's worth doing, then do it, and stick it out, otherwise just hit the freezer section of the grocery store instead and quit fishing. Does Robert's Rules allow a forum leader to resort to personal insult of the participants?
This ends my rebuttal to the rebuttal, obscure and obtuse as it may be, so be it.

Paul,
Welcome to the world of trying to enforce policy on a discussion board. I cannot think of a better example of what I and the other custodians have to deal with on a daily basis. Does that hit anywhere close to home for you now?

Blake, yes, its pretty obvious I was wrong in assuming that your members were mature enough to self disipline.

Better keep your control reins tight. Any of your members that can actually think for themselves have probably already left.
